That's a weird way to score.
In ALL organized target shooting competitions, ANY part of the hole touching a line gets you the higher score.

Ok, Thanx for the heads up! I did not know that!

I've never shot any organized matches, and the way I explained is just the way I thought things were. I just figured if most my shot is in the 9 ring and less was in the 10 ring, then it should score 9.

So, as not to be "out of the norm", I stand corrected and we'll use this method of counting the scoring.

Anything goes for this match! I plan on using a rest.

Here is a good PDF on scoring targets:

http://www.gbpl.org/pdfs/GBPL_scoring.pdf

The last large paragraph on page 3 has the actual NRA wording and discussion about this.

Quote:
A shot hole, the leaded edge of which comes in contact with the
outside of the bullseye or scoring rings of a target, is given the highest value.

Default August rimfire match

Here is my target from today. 50 yards with a rest. Shot at Chabot in Castro Valley on the 50 yard rifle range public line.

With the new score in effect I calculate this to be 370. Only 10 bonus points scored here as all the hits must be within the black as stated in the match start post.

My 10/22 has an unknown stock (I would be interested to know what it is), Harris non swivel bipod,Volquartsen fluted SS barrel with brake, my own trigger job (around 1 1/2 lbs), chamfered bolt, also ground the face down to near minimum head space, auto bolt release mod, extended mag release, my own barrel retainer block with a set screw, Barska 10-40x50 AO scope with my own scope base with 15 moa machined in for long range sighting and a delrin bolt buffer. The receiver is fully bedded and I made a aluminum bushing which is bedded into the bottom of the stock and a SS take down bolt that acts like a pillar bedding recoil lug (very close tolerance) to keep it all together. Made all the parts myself in my home shop.

http://www.edsmetalshop.com/

Ammo today was Wolf Match Target. I know there is something better as there seemed to be some hits that were not as consistent as the majority.

Next addition will be a Volquartsen extractor.

Default August rimfire match

dwh100:

Great shooting. Looks like 400 is a possibility from someone here on CG.

Seems like a positive score match is working, at least for me. Thanks.

I know the "Benchrest" guys can blow us all away, but for plinkers this is good clean fun.

More targets please as we need to encourage dwh100 to keep this going.

Thanks again and stay safe.

Default 355 points

Close, but no bonus points for our plucky hero:

Shot 50 yards prone with a bipod (no rear support) in fairly gusty wind conditions with a Kimber M82 bolt action, a 4x-16x/56mm airgun scope (hey, it's what I had), and SK Standard Plus ammo.

Now I want to go back when it's calm (it's rarely calm at the Dunsmuir range) and get those bonus points I so richly deserve.

Maybe I'll squeeze in a morning before the month's over.

I was bored and unable to go to the range today like planned so I shot this with my Crossman Quest 1000 at 10m, iron sights, unsupported:

I was a bit disappointed as I was rushing my shots to finish before dark. If there is interest how about adding an airgun class too?

score should be like l-r club. as long as the line breaks it counts as the higher score. kinda like if you grazed the heart, it'll still die. just a suggestion. it will get confusing when someone gets a 45 percent and claims it the higher score when its suppose to be lower. neways, i will post mines tommrow. its a great activity btw.

Sorry, I'm not much of a pistol shooter at this kind of stuff. Someone might chim in with a better distance, but I'm guessing 15 open/25 yds scoped.

Any thoughts from you pistoleros?

can I use 10 yards if i am using air pistol? since i don't think i'm gonna get a chance to head out to the range this month, but i got an air pistol that i can easily shoot in my backyard. it only shoots about 300-350 FPS so hoping to use a shorter range to compensate?

sorry for making you add rules, etc onto this, but i really want to be able to participate in these informal matches, it helps me judge my progress in shooting

hahaha, sadly no... haha

i'll try to see what is the max distance i have in my backyard and just shoot that and a few at 10/15 yards to see. since i only have a .2gram projectile and 300FPS.... not exactly the best combo for accuracy over long ranges.

I shoot the 17gr aguila rounds in my back yard.
Accuracy sure falls apart past about 10m/yds.
These are going about 350-400fps, but sometimes they don't actually leave the barrel.

Nice shootin'!
That shot on the top row broke the line so it scores as a 10! So score 390!!!

Here is my submission... I hope I wasn't overly generous with a couple of the shots. I don't think I did too bad for a stock all weather 10/22 with the plastic trigger assembly, cheap ammo, and cheap Walmart optic. I hope to start upgrading parts as soon as my account recovers from my truck tire purchase .

Uhh, we should get a clarification, but I didn't think the bonus points applied unless you got all the shots within the black circle (not just touching).

In other words, it was possible to score 90 points for a row without receiving the bonus.

Because I haven't gotten back to the range to try and better my previous .22 rimfire score, I shot one at home with my .177 pre-charged pneumatic airgun (a Crosman Marauder), and managed some bonus points for a 363 score:

This is only 48 yards, but that's all I can really manage without getting up halfway and turning over the target on the stand.

You can see I had problems with a light wind (this was shot sideways, with drift to the left), but that's par for the course; at 50 yards, a .177 JSB Exact Heavy pellet (10.3 grains, 900 fps) drifts 3.9 MOA in a 5mph breeze (I believe that's almost 2" at 50 yards).

This was shot off a bipod, no rear bag, though damnit, I'm going to try that next time at the range.
