Default Cherry Creek (in Ojai, CA)

Anyone shoot there OLL's up at Cherry Creek? Any problems with the rangers/sherrifs? I go up there all the time, usually just to shoot pistols and my shotty. I rarely ever see any type of LE way up there but I just don't want some crazy grizzly adams forest ranger shooting me because I have an evil crew-served MK44 gattling gun (actually my CA legal M4gery).

You are allowed to shoot up in Ojai?

I'm in!

I don't live there, but I visit often enough....

yup, if you take the 33 way up past Wheelers and past the OHV gun club there's a BLM type shooting area. It's nice, no range nazi's, rapid fire all you want, people bring everything from clay pigeons to washing machines and TV's to shoot up there. You can bring up your own little BBQ and make a day out of it!

And do these idiots clean up after themselves?

If not, there most likely won't be a shooting area there much longer...

Default Cherry Creek

I have shot up there a lot. I always haul out what I shoot. The VCSD that patrol up there are pretty cool and do drive by there twice a day believe it or not. I do not know about the USFS rangers, though they have been pretty nice when I have talked to them at other places in the Los Padres NF.

If you go, make sure you have a truck though. Cars will have a tough time going through the riverbed. Bring suncreen too, there is VERY little shade. If you bring a BBQ, you need to get a permit at the Wheeler Gorge ranger station. However, due to the fire danger right now and the big fire last year, I doubt they will let BBQs in at all. This is also an Adventure Pass NF. If you pull over to the side and park without the AP permit, you will get a ticket. I do not know about actually being at Cherry Creek and needing an AP.

Default No shooting to aid fish habitat?

Just ran into some bummer news while Googling...

The FS is closing the range to improve fish habitat.

Looks like we need an advocate here...
