Default K31

Picked this puppy up for $200. There is a nasty gauge on the left side of the stock, but that doesn't affect the groups.

When it came to me, the shellac finish was all but worn off and the wood is unprotected save for the grime. I used paint stripper to remove the old shellac and grime. The wood was covered with damp towel overnight and then steamed to smooth over the dents. No sand paper ever touched the wood (the cartouche is untouched). I applied the "natural" coloured shellac from home depot with an extremely thin base coat to seal and gradually built it up to the product you see now. As a finishing touch, 000 steel wool was used to rough up the shellac so it doesn't stick to the hands.

The grouping posted below are from two five round strings. One from the bench, one from a sitting position. The reason I shot the second string sitting was because the recoil was too much and the sitting position allows the body to recoil with the gun. All in all, not bad for a guy who has glasses so thick they might as well be bulletproof.

His name was Hugo Scharli born in 1931 (that make him 81 if he is still around)
He was in a medical company (probably company 4 of army unit 1)
His address was : Ziegelfeldstrasse 2 Olten, Switzerland

I found the soilder for my K-31 tag, however he passed away in 2011. You might get lucky searching the swiss phone books online.
