The Mini is CA legal! There are only a few models that have a flash hider that are a no go.

At big5 they sell the ones from the war and brand new ones. They don't have a pistol grip. Good to go.

Minis are illegal. Ar's and ak are not. Bolt action sniper scoped rifles are also illegal bcuz it can be used in assasinations and to take down airplanes transporting hundreds of sheeples.

Which war are you taking about? The price war between Wal-mart and KMart back in the 1980's?

The versions of the mini 14/30 that are illegal in CA you basically would have to order from out of state anyways. Big 5 typically has the "Ranch Rifle", sometimes the stainless and sometimes the stainless synthetic stock or combos thereof. The versions that are illegal in CA are the "tacticals". They have a flash suppressor (no-no) and some have a pistol grip (you then need a bullet button). CA minis are sold without a pistol grip, no suppressor and a 5 round mag.

The only gun made that I --->HATE!

The users seem to care less that the brass, flying out at 200mph, damages other peoples property when it hits it.

So far I have had:

My spotting scope severly chipped and damaged
My BRAND NEW CZ rifle dented in the nice walnut stock.
My AR-15 dented and chipped.
My ear split open

Yes Mini 14s are legal in California currently given then don't have a flash hider or tactical stock but SB374 is about to change that and make ALL Mini 14s illegal and unavailable to buy in the future. Look at my signature, contact Gov Brown and tell him to veto all anti gun BS.

Mini-14's are legal.

I owned them since mid 1980's. The agency that I work for used them in the past.

I owned (and own) several. Really like the new model .

Ruger made 5/10/20/30 round magazines for years. Since mid 1970's

10 and 20 rounder are my favorite.

Mini-14's are handy, REALIABLE and give You plenty of firepower.

This thread was funny as hell. Thanks men. Mini's are great. I remember my local ace hardware store back east carried them in the 80's. Those were the days. I had one but traded it off.

I like my mini 30! Fun to shoot, looks cool, shoots the formerly super cheap wolf, and sends the cases into the head of the guy next to me at light speed! Fortunately it's usually a friend of mine, and they usually deserve it!

Be careful what information you choose to believe. Any new mini you by in a shop is legal. One you buy used could very well be an unregistered assault weapon and the previous owner may have no idea.

Check the flow chart and it will tell you what is legal or not. Minis CAN have any number of items that classify them as assault weapons such as flash suppressor, folding, collapsible, or thumbhole stock. And just cause they don't start with a pistol grip doesn't mean someone won't put one on it.

100% legal! I grew up shooting one a 186 series that my dad purchased from a gun smith who bought them off brinks because they decided to arm their guards with shotguns instead. The mini 14 has left a lasting impression on me so much so that my two semi auto rifles also came from the factory featureless.

Most Ruger Mini-14s are legal in CA.
Some Ruger Mini-14s are illegal in CA.

It depends on how the Mini-14 is configured.

If SB374 becomes CA law, then all Ruger Mini-14s would be illegal in CA (except those registered as assault weapons).

Well fortunately it was vetoed, so we'll still be able to buy those war time surplus mini 14's.

lol, it's probably going to be a while before he gets past that comment about mini 14's from the war. However for some people at a glance, he might have just mixed them up with the m1 garand/m1a/m14, maybe.

Some random comments and questions-

- The Ranch Rifle and Mini 14 are both the same product, correct?

- Where did the name "mini" come from?

- When will Magpul ever make poly mags for the M14?

- What year did Ruger improve the rifle and thicken the barbell?

Thanks
