You are GTG where we will be at since it's BLM.

Question for the SSZS vets:

What's the deal with the wind and EZ-ups? I seem to remember someone mentioning daisy-chaining them one to the other. Will that be good enough or are weights the way to go?

It seems we are going to have great weather this weekend.

http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/bar...weather/332036

Temperature in the mid 80s, Sunny and warm on Saturday, clear skies at night.

Perfect conditions for a zombie hunt.....

Bring water, lots of ice, soft drinks, sunscreen lotion with high SPF, hats, etc.

I think if you tie 2 together without weights they will both take off in a gust of wind. I watched a guy 2 years ago chase his most of the way to the camping area and as it tumbled he was just feet from it and almost was able to grab it every step, right when he got to it it folded and was toast.

Some way to tie it down, weights etc. is a must. I bring 4, 24 inch concrete form stakes and pound them in at an angle on the sides by each leg, then tie 1/4" rope tight from the top corner to the opposite bottom to form an X on each side. Have been doing this for 10+ years and have never had an issue even in the strongest winds.

Final instructions, maps, directions, coordinates, etc., will be posted within a couple of days.

Please keep checking the initial posts in this thread for that elusive & "secret" information.........

This is going to be a great event.

This is what I used last year with great results:
http://www.amazon.com/Palm-Springs-f...=ez+up+weights

Anything and everything you can do to add more weight to the EZ-ups is helpful. Rope with stakes hammer into the ground, tied to ammo bins, other EZ-ups etc.

I'd like to make this year the first year no one goes home with a broken Ez-up!

One caveat. Since this is a large organized event, we just ask no loaded firearms off the firing line and no firearms carried during a ceasefires (except by designated RSO's).

The wind twisted my ez-up like a pretzel and as it did it knocked our table over and ALL our guns hit the dirt. We spent the following two hours stripping guns and mags...

I have a 1 and a half little girl that I don't have a babysitter for. Would it be ok to bring her along? If so, any suggestions? It'll be me and my wife taking turns watching the little one????

Yes, the basic area is accessible by car, and the firing line can be accessible depening on car and how much you are willing to risk a couple minor scrapes. I used to own a Saturn Aura that made it to the firing line without trouble any time I went out. I dont believe the spot is significantly different from the past.

When is the last time this was confirmed? I called SB county sheriff's department 6 weeks ago and was told "open carry" of a pistol is now prohibited throughout CA unless you have a CCW in which case it would need to be concealed. I was told as of January 1st....could be misinformation, but I wasnt willing to risk a citation even at my campsite...

Default New to the shoot.

I have a couple of questions for the pros....(dont want to upset anyone my first time!)

I see a list of do's and dont's but want to claify the drinking rules (retired Marine, so my happy juice is important)

I, obviously agree with the dont shoot and drink rule, but when we mean that all alcohol has to stay in the trailer.....are we saying that I cant walk to another trailer with a beer. How far is the range from the camp site? I hope to meet some new people here so I figured to walk around and talk to people, this usually involves some beverage of the adult type. Is this not allowed? if I am "carrying" a beer, Do I need a "CCW" for my Guinness? HA HA. I am ok if I do, but again, just want to make sure I am not breaking any rules.

Also, as a first timmer, is there spots that I can, or cannot park in. I have talked to some member that I have met, and they say that its open camping, but if I get up there early I want to make sure I am in the right spot.

Thanks, and I hope to hear back/see some of you this weekend.

Sorry if unclear when posting. Open carry IS prohibited in California. There are few exemptions and I was posting those exemptions. When on BLM land or in National Forest you may open carry legally.
There are certain areas within BLM and National Forest that that are specifically prohibited from loaded open carry (Possibly even unloaded?) and should be posted. So if you're not sure don't risk it.
You may actually legally conceal carry without permit if in the act of hunting or fishing although I was reading thread other week of guy who got nabbed while fishing.
The Ranger said he could legally conceal carry since he was "in the act of fishing", but he had crossed into a prohibited area so he couldn't have ammunition in his concealed weapon.
(What's point of having unloaded conceal carry?) But whatever.

***I know from past SSZSs that there are specific rules to this event regarding the handling of firearms that the RSOs will be enforcing. See SeanCasey above

PC 26350 is the general prohibition on open carry. 26361-26391 are all of the exemptions.

Exemptions to note:

26362. Section 26350 does not apply to, or affect, the open
carrying of an unloaded handgun by any person to the extent that
person may openly carry a loaded handgun pursuant to Article 4
(commencing with Section 26000) of Chapter 3.

26388. Section 26350 does not apply to, or affect, the open
carrying of an unloaded handgun on publicly owned land, if the
possession and use of a handgun is specifically permitted by the
managing agency of the land and the person carrying that handgun is
in lawful possession of that handgun.

Loaded is covered in another section, but ultimately, in this particular spot the discharge of firearms for target practice is legal under BLM's rules, and to discharge a firearm you must both carry it, and load it. State law for carry and loaded exempts you from the PC in this situation.

However, at the event, do not carry any weapons at all during cease fire (except RSO's), and no loaded weapons off the firing line (carry with actions open). This is a safety rule for us and not a legal requirement, but since we all want to be safe I am sure we wont have any issues with it

I updated in post #530 the T-info for shirt design I have.
Light Sand only and the Crosshair Zombie is only design.

Just picked them up and they came out pretty nice.

That card reader that Mr X had on his phone at the last Costa Mesa show seemed to work pretty well as long as there is phone service.

Hello Shootout>Massacre.

Welcome to Calguns, I'm sure you will find a lot of great and friendly people and tons of useful information in our website.

Just to clarify and reiterate.

No alcohol beverages are allowed nor will be tolerated at the firing line; furthermore, any event attendee suspected to be under the influence of any kind of intoxicant will be politely asked to leave the premises for their own safety and the safety of all of us.

This is a 100% family oriented event and for us, safety is always first.

That being said, the campground is just 100' away from the firing line, during the entire weekend there are a lot of unbelievable friendly law abiding fellow members camping out, enjoying our land and looking forward to make new friends.

You'll find a vast array of motor homes, toyhaulers, wagons, tents, campfires, music playing all over the place, big screens, surround sound systems, pop corn machines, outstanding people, full families and friends having a good time, etc., in a more relaxed ground where the members can interact with each others away from the firearms, but still, still close enough to the action (firing line).

Believe me, it is a pretty nice and pleasant experience.

Again, for security reasons, the firing line will be "dry" at all times.

Yes. We got him setup for CM.

AS far as the SSZS goes. It requires a reliable data connection, something that in years past was not available until you were most of the way back to the 15. I'll bring my reader, but I'm not holding on to any hope that there is any signal out there.

Okay guys, when ordering the shirts please include your username as well as your proper (real) name.

I'm a old guy and my head gets to spinning trying to figure out and attach a name to a payment.

Thanks,

I had one leg tied to a trailer, one to a heavy floor jack and one leg tied to a 1919A4 (seriously) and was starting to wonder if it was going to twist. I didn't want to pull a jerk move and abandon the easy up I was holding as I knew it would have been damaged. This time (if I remember) I'm going to bring a 45 lbs. weight for each leg and possibly tie it to my truck.

Easily. Again, we had CSA's poor little car loaded so full the suspension was bottomed out the entire trip there and we made it up a hill, around a slow truck on the ramp to the shooting line.

I've been cranking away at the presses for so long I look like I'm single!

  • Alcohol needs to stay away from the line, preferably off the ridge the firing line is on. So far 0 injuries total at all the events.
  • Be sure to bring plenty of ear protection and glasses!!!
  • As long as you park off the path, you'll be ok. Watch the brush as you pull in to park, some vehicles will start brush on fire with hot exhausts.
  • Sean, I can help with RSO duties on Saturday. Any way we can limit the duration of the cease fires? Some of them were out of control.
  • I'm bringing a floor jack that has already been drained of fluids and will be open season for everyone. This will be down range at 100 yards and painted orange.
