Question TLR-2 vs TLR-4 Rail Mounted Light/Laser on a Sig 1911?

Stemming from this thread

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=576686

TLR-2
http://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-69...dp/B0037AHXR8/

TLR-4
http://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-69...dp/B0077RHYWQ/

It was recommended to go with a TLR-2 for the 1911 since it's not a compact.

Thoughts?

I think we posted it in your other thread, but I personally would get the TLR-2 if you really want a laser, or the TLR-1 if no laser (or if price is a consideration). The TLR-4 is designed for compact guns and 1)will look awkward on a 1911 and 2) the barrel might block out some of the light beam since the light sits so far behind it. I think you'd want the light to sit as close to the barrel tip as possible. If the light extends beyond the barrel tip, no problem, but if the light is too far behind the barrel, you might have functionality issues.

Having trouble finding any pictures of a 1911 with a TLR-4 mounted, I guess that tells me something...

I wish the TLR-2 wasn't an extra $100 higher in price...

I guarantee that as soon as you buy a TLR-4 and put it on that giant pistol, you are gonna wish you had of gotten the TLR-2. my TLR-1s is awesome and im thinking about getting a TLR-2s. when I buy a M&Pc I will get a TLR-4s.

If you cruise through the internet you will find postings about people breaking the TLR-3 by over tightening it. I think some of those may have been because they used the wrong rail adapter but I have not seen (and I don't believe there are any) postings of folks breaking a TLR-1 / 2 in the same manner.

The TLR-2 is brighter than the TLR-4.

So unless you are looking at a weight issue, I'd go with the TLR-2 for the robustness and greater light output.

I do not own a TLR-2, do have TLR-1 on multiple guns. I'm not that big of fan of lasers but if it appeals to you, go for it. I've had one problem, I broke the lens on one of my lights. Contacted Streamlight, asked for the pricing (told them my it was my fault) and they sent a replacement free. That's company support guys.

I find lasers distracting. The only guns I like them on are tiny backups where you can use them in lieu of sights at distances of 3-10ft.

Otherwise - sights.

Try shooting with one and you'll understand.
