Default **2002 BMW M5 E39 Expert needed**

My father has a 2002 BMW M5 E39 with about 10k miles on it. It was one of the last of this body style to come off the factory line in beautiful Bavaria. Though ten years old, this car literally looked and drove like it was fresh out of the factory (yet has the engine just barely worn in so that baby just purrrrrred). He's receives countless offers on it all the time from people who see it and can appreciate what it is.

Anyway, this car is located in New Jersey and was effected by the lovely super storm on the East Coast. Luckily their house survived unscathed, with the exception of the garage. Unfortunately though, this beautiful car felt the wrath as she took some water damage. The insurance agency is going to "total" it, but I know he is still interested in getting her fixed.

This is where all of you awesome Calgunners come in. I am looking for the best of the best BMW mechanics, even more specifially one that has a nack for the older body style M5s without the newer M drive or whatever that is. I am looking for an expert who can tear this baby down and fix whatever is needed so this baby can purr once again.

If you know anyone or any shop (doesn't have to be in CA or New Jersey) that can do this type of repairwork please let me know.

Really appreciate it guys.

My heart goes out to all those who lost more than just a car in that incredible storm.

Where in CA are you located, was the car submerged above the window line?

ALL modern cars (especially late model europeans) have extensive electronic 'modules' all over the car, not just the typical DME/ECU.

I have several BMW factory trained friends in northern cal and parts of New Jersey, however my E39 M5 v8 friends are mostly out here in CA.

Perhaps I can help ? Send me a PM

There is a shop here in the San Gabriel Valley that has a reputation among BMW owners for doing excellent work without the absurd dealership prices. PM sent.

The e39 m5 is a fantastic car, but water damage in a fairly complicated car can make it an absolute nightmare. PCM, vanos, and corroded wiring can have your repair bills costing more than the value of the car.

I understand loving the car, take the insurance check and buy another one.

Wow man that is horrible. When I first read you post I thought I read it incorrectly. 10k miles is insanely low!

I used to own a 2005 e46 m3 steel grey metallic fully loaded with competition package and everything. Loved that car. The e39 m5 is what I want to try next.

Best of luck sorting out the car issues.
