Default CaPRC Marksmanship Clinic "A" at Angeles - May 20, 2012

One of the stated goals of CaPRC is to bring new shooters into precision riflery.

Come on out and join us at Angeles for our new precision rifle shooter orientation on Sunday May 20th.
We will teach how to get behind the gun/scope, attaining proper eye relief, using the features of the scope and natural point of aim.

Then we will check your zero at 100yds and get the knobs set to zero and work on the basics of marksmanship.

The course curriculum was written by a former USMC scout sniper instructor.
This is a beginning precision rifle shooter clinic so we will concentrate on basic marksmanship as it is the basis of all future learning.
This will be shot at 100yds.

Fees are $50 for non-CaPRC members or $40 for CaPRC members.
The entry fee covers the classroom session, cold drinks and BBQ lunch.

Plan on a full day as the schedule has us shooting until at least 4pm.
You may attend the classroom portion as a non-shooter and then observe the shooting portion of the day for a reduced $20 non-shooter fee.

Tentative schedule as follows:
8:30 Sign-in at hunters education classroom
9:00 Classroom session at hunters education clasroom
11:45 move to the rifle line and safety briefing
12:00 verify, correct and zero knobs at 100yds (10 rds)
12:30 BBQ lunch break
1:00 open shooting time with instruction

Some things to bring:
Precision rifle wearing a scope with target knobs, eye/ear protection, sunscreen, chamber flag, 80 rounds of match quality ammo, shooting mat or blanket, bipod, some kind of rear bag or sand sock, small notepad and a pencil or pen to take notes.

Bring what you have, don't worry too much about what you don't have. We always make do with what we have.

This is a Precision Rifle event so if the gun/scope/ammo is not capable of shooting tight groups, it will detract from your overall experience at the shoot.
If possible, please have your rifle zeroed at 100yds and your knobs set to zero.
We will verify a correct zero at the shoot, but it takes time that is better spent putting rounds on targets.

RSVPs for CaPRC club members will be accepted after 12 noon on Monday 5/14/12.
RSVPs for non club members will be accepted after 12 noon on Wednesday 5/16/12.

Please note the dates for RSVPs. The reason for posting this notice now is so that you have plenty of time to mark your calendars and leave May 20th open for the clinic. RSVPs open the week before the clinic so that people's schedules tighten up and the RSVPs become firm.

Thanks.

My wife and I would LOVE to come, but it's going to depend on whether our newborn (1 week old yesterday!) is doing well enough that she can stay with the babysitter by then. We'll know by the time registration opens.

Only other problem....I've got an AR308 (Black Hole Weaponry 20" SS/Geissele SSA-E/Vortex Viper PST 4-16 FFP MIL), and she's got a complimentary SDM-R inspired spotter's rifle (WOA 20" SDMR, Geissele SSA-E/TA11F), but that ACOG is the only optic we've got left. I'm assuming it's not kosher, right? (No target knobs, not really a "precision" sight, etc)

It should work fine for this class as it is all at 100 yards, but I depends on how well you can see with the low 3.5-4 power of the scope. Print out a few of these targets and see if you can accuratly engage the dots at 100 yards: http://www.caprc.com/targets/1.0dots.pdf
The focus is marksmenship and getting a solid 100 yard zero. The future classes where we build dope from 100 to 600 yards, the acog will not work.

My 100y paper targets for both rifles are white graph-style paper with 1" black squares.

Just seeing the pics of Snappy's BBQ makes my mouth water. Holy crap, that was good grub. Just in case you fence-sitters needed any more incentive.

(Nevermind the fact that the CAPRC crew are every bit as friendly as they are knowledgeable. These clinics are worth every penny. )

This is a great course. If you're new to long guns, it's well worth it!

For those of you who are going to participate in the Clinic "A", this is a very good opportunity to build some momentum toward entering your first match.

The club's May centerfire match will be on Sunday, May 27th, only one week after the Clinic "A". If you go to the clinic, get a solid zero, learn some fundamentals, and then dry practice at home, you will have improved quite a bit by the time the 27th comes around.

Don't let all of this enthusiasm and momentum die down. This is a very good chance to do the old one-two with the clinic and the match only a week after.

Probably not untill the end of the year or early 2013. About every 6 months we do one.
