Should us local guys wait for the new grip before taking possession of the frame?

I used a reamer on the mag catch hole and 120 grit sand paper on the mag well. Wilson combat mags worked the best. Trigger pocket is little tight wich will cause the mag to hang up so use a high quality trigger.

Yeah I had to file out the mag catch hole and the trigger area. Using a Wilson ultra light trigger it was a tight fit but after some filing it was good. However, the mag catch locking SLOT, where you turn the small tab that locks it into the grip flexed out and cracked/broke. I am using a ISMI match catch spring.... Don't think it should rip out though

That was my main concern with the grip that I posted earlier on one of these threads. I think that may be one of the changes in this new grip. I ordered a set of wolf springs in various strengths and used the lightest one in the pack

All,

Some have asked group buy lists to be posted. I will copy what I posted in the other thread...

I have gotten far more involved with this project than I expected. The number of people I've spoken to in the 1911 world would surprise you.

A little about "customer lists", be they handles, usernames or real names:

The "father" of the 80% CNC build parties (at least the earliest guy on record that I know of, or have spoken to, my label, not his) was eagerly raided by a particular Government agency who should focus more on Sir Walter Raleigh' crop or Fermented liquids than these projects. He states that aside from seizing everything possible, independent of their own issued STB 80% letter, their most significant interest was?

The customer list.

You guessed it. And, after substantial hassle and revenue loss, no charges were brought by jackbooted thugs with badges, all on the record.

As a result, I as the organizer of the original group buy, have maintained stupid OPsec on customer names, and how and where money was deposited aside from electronic means, even though we are purchasing barstock paperweights.

When you show up to learn to machine your paperweight, you pay cash and give your first name and initial.

Since this group buy started and Sandy Hook took place right around local delivery time:

^Obama has made much noise about Gun Control along with his cronies, "for the children"
^ intuit ha cancelled our sellers account, expressly for selling "firearms"
^ PayPal has cancelled scores of accounts, including ours And Ares for selling barstool paperweights
^Elavon froze the account based on suspicions of "fraudulent business"
^ google ad words cancelled all redirecting and advertising of all gun and firearms related businesses and suspended Ares account
^ Bank of America has frozen the account of people who trade in Firearms
^Chase Bank has frozen funds of those in the firearms business

And these are just the ones I know about while doing this group buy with Ares, all in the last TWO WEEKS.

So, to whoever asked for a posted list I customers, hopefully now you understand why that is an entirely Darwinian idea these days.

The Ares boys wear a 3% tattoo: remember only 3% of Americans fought in the revolution. And, Hitler was elected in Austria with 98% of the vote. Today, you're seeing a greater and greater percentage of businesses singing Obama's an Feinstein's tune aggressively demanding you give up your firearms, legally or otherwise.

Please don't ask for Lists anymore.

New news:

*Frames will be shipped Monday-Friday of this week.

* I have a healthy list of Caspian slides available without the 8-12 week Caspian wait. The slides are new, from Caspian, and they are to be delivered immediately upon buy. Probably 20-30.

If you want modifications, you get none on these 20-30 as cut slides as you will slow the process for everyone unless previously agreed. These are offered at 10 percent off retail if we can get more than 15 people interested. I will post this list soon when I'm in front of a computer.

If you want a standard 5" slide with Novak cuts, we can get those ordered and may be able to get priority over the usual 12 week wait to perhaps 8 weeks or less. 5 percent discounts on those, I believe. FYI, Caspian typically discounts after 100 units, and they're typically slammed. I can probably get some custom changes on these but minimal please. You may also place a specific request for anything they manufacture provided it is within their regular build time window and nothing extravagant. if you order Damascus or the like, expect a wait on your item.

* Caspian manufactures a good number of items for Wilson Combat and a number of others they sell directly. Ares Is working on "parts only" kits (no slide r barrel) to give you a chance to complete your Frame or use our existing slide an barrel. Stay tuned.

Thank you

If you have manual mill just use your dials or if you have one DRO? Everything is dimensioned off the slide stop hole.

Default Build Parties

Gents,

A quick snapshot here: The Build Parties happen at Ares as scheduled. You simply get on the list, pay your money, get instruction on how to build your 80%, place your machine on the vise, operate your machine to mill the rails and perforate the holes, and you're done. This is a little later in the day....

,

And here's yet another completed Blue Collar Rudius, with all Ares Parts brought in by one of the people standing in line!

Funny how a "list" is frowned upon but a photo of everyone is okay.

I went in today, picked up my receiver at Ares store front, drove over to their machine shop, and stood in line for about a minute and a half. I was done with the whole thing, start to finish in less than a half hour, including driving time. It was easy, and Banana was there to make sure I got the stuff that I had ordered. If you can, try to get in on a weekday when they are doing the 1911s. There was no wait at all.

Its just the way the material and design currently is. You can try and use a softer mag catch spring so less pressure is placed on small bridge where the lock slot is. Just be very careful and it should be fine. I have extra grips so I just used another one and it hasn't broken through yet

Only thing left is to fit a grip safety on, notice there is one on the table. That is the Wilson #298B that Ares said comes with their High End kit. A lot of material is needed to be removed. Not even close IMO so I ordered the jig and a few other safeties to test out.

On this Rudius I took off material from the dust cover to match up with the commander slide, I also set back the rails and the slide feels much better now. Will do a detail post and range test as soon as I figure out the grip safety situation.

Special thanks to Mrbfox, and glbtrottr / Banana for meeting me late.

So what all do you have to do to make these into commanders? Just use a commander slide/barre/springs? Or is there more to it than that?

Machine the rails back .1 and I think you have to machine the part the spring touches in the frame back .1

As far as the frame itself goes, you must cut the front of the rails shorter by .100" and also recut the recoil spring abutment back by .100" Thats about it as far as function goes. You'll need to shorten the front dustcover as well to match your slide. This is purely aesthetic though.

I intend to use an Acra Mill Plus for at least one, and post the result on Gunwiki.net.

http://vanda-layindustries.com/html/acra_mill_plus.html

I've used one to cut slots on a Garand receiver once to make it a BM-59 receiver. Worked fine for that, and I expect that it'll also do fine on these.

It's not that I don't have a Bridgeport, but my Gunwiki articles are focused on "if I do it on this site, you can do it in your apartment."
