Default Non-Gas Block Pinned Front Sight Question

Ive got an 7.62x39 AR upper that has a low profile gas block underneath the standard rifle length handguards. Outside of the handguard is then a standard A2 front sight base that is pinned to the barrel. Can I safely remove the front sight to accommodate a longer handguard? May be a silly question but I wondered if structurally the pins add any strength to the barrel or its fine to shoot with out.

If the A2 is there just as a sight, you should be able to press the pins out and slide it off
