Default Layaway + DROS ???

went and put a RIA 38super on layaway....but dont understand why I cant start the Dros process til the gun has been paid off?

my other local LGS lets me put a deposit on a firearm...start dros....pay the balance after the 10day wait when i go to pick up my firearm!

what gives? its not like it was a special order item...it was something off the shelf and wasnt on the spring flyer sale?

please advise

thank you

Here's how I see it, and I can be completely wrong.

DROS = Dealer Report of Sale right?

If you haven't paid for it completely, it has not been sold to you. They then cannot register a sale of a firearm(s) to you if it's not yours. Sounds like the other dealer is doing you an extra service.

Imagine if you or someone else didn't come back to pay the remaining balance. They would be stuck with a registered handgun that they cannot resell.

As far as I know you can. So unless anything has changed recently, it was definitely an employee mistake if they said no. Friends and I have done this multiple times on spur of the moment purchases.

Hmmm. Strange. Turners in Kearny Mesa used to do that but my last purchase I was able to put a few hundred down and paid off the remainer when I picked it up.

The layaway deposit at Turners (30% for 30 days) is also the same as the cancellation/restocking fee so it's no loss there for the most part. Also if he paid full and didn't pick up his gun within 30 days it would have to be "re-DROS'd" anyway, don't see how that gun couldn't then be DROS'd to a new customer if that is the case.

That makes a whole lotta sense, there must be a process in the DROS completed by the dealer after it is picked up as well.

Depends on where you go...Southern CA Guns only requires u put 30% down on it and then theyll start the DROS...The way I look at it, ALL stores should do it.. Chances are if someone plops down 30% of the total price, he or she is gonna come back and pick it up unless something serious comes up for that individual and even if they dont, there is still a restocking fee...sooo technically the vendor doesnt loose out on anything... I mean really...most people who are gun nuts like me would sacrifice extra groceries or pay a bill a lil late just to get our gun out of jail on time so what gives???

thanks guys i feel the same way...it was an off the shelf item and the 30% deposit acts as a cancellation/restocking fee anyway

and if CA allows it...i dont see why they would do otherwise????

it might be diff policy from store to store cus my buddy did the 30%+dros at the Norwalk Store but they wouldnt let me at the Corona store???? suckssss!!!!

somebody from turners should really get in here and clear things up

I think you can as long as you put 30% down, unless it is a used or consignment sale. Those need to be paid in full before DROS.

Sorry Folks.. I went to Singal Hills Turners to get the Rossi .357mag that was on sale..

After dealing with a mad man who was pissed and threw the stapler at the wall since the price adjustment was not working in their new computer system, I found out NO DROS til Gun was paid for in full. The guy did not ask if I was going to pay for the gun in full or lawaway.. He told me to go pay the 30%. I asked the cashier if the DROS was going to start today. She said no since I was not paying for the gun in full. I told her to go ask the manager if we can start the DROS with the 30% and he said no... I was pissed since I picked up another handgun from Norwalk Turner 30 days before and they started the DROS with 30% down.. I just paid the Rossi in full so they could start the DROS and it would allow me to pick it up in 10 days. I told the Signal Hill store that I was never going back there again with their terrible service. They even let me walk out with the Rossi 10 days later with no safety demo.

Went to Noralk store to complain about how the Signal Hill store was and they said there was a memo which came out 3 months ago which stated they could DROS the firearm with the 30% down..

They can resale the gun once it has been allocated & DROS to the customer. Just think it would be sold as a used (unfired new) gun since it was allocated to someone who cancelled their order.

Just so you know, Noralk Turners gives you the option of starting the DROS now or after you paid the gun off, in which you have 30 days to do so..

At the bottom of the forms where you sign, it reads " DROS cannot be started til gun is paid in full"...

Every store is different and maybe you can call and ask before you start the paperwork.

if its company policy, whatever it is, then they need to be consistent lol

dont get me wrong, the service at corona store from Dave and Larry was great, just the "paid in full DROs" just really bothers me

I have been shoping at the san marcos store for years. and they have let me start dros on guns with just leaving only 30%. i have allways had to ask for the manger to let them do it. i guess it really depends on who you talk to at the store.

Some store has a company policy that they can't run DROS until it's fully paid. 1 Local store in my area will let you put 30% or 25% down then do DROS and pay in full on 10 days for pick up. If you pass 30 days w/out paying/picking up you will need to pay another DROS fee then wait 10 days again

not all Turner's managers and staff are up to date on the new DROS policy, CGN specials, etc...

contact robz@turners.com if a store is not following the policy....

Kearny Mesa has a policy as of 2012 that allows a customer to start his or her dros once he or she has placed a payment of at least 30% of total purchase price (including tax and dros fee) of the firearm. I was able do to it on my Ruger Sp101 that I purchased in the begining of this month.

I'm not sure if there were any changes that might have occured between now and then.

good thing turner's don't allow their employees to be armed...

i've not seen the DROS cannot be started until gun is paid in full on their old or new layaway forms.

They also enter the earliest you can pick up the firearm with the "date and time".... Look all the way at the bottom of that form.. You will see it..

I already have sent a PM to a Turners employee and an email to rodz two days ago and still no response. In addition to the no response, Im a little nervous doing business with them after reading about their customer service at some stores. Im just going to buy my 22 online and pay the FFL fee elsewhere.

Look right under the area where you sign you name stating the product was recieved in good condition... I seen it before.. Norwalk lets you DROS before paying for gun in full and I will continue to deal with them..

Signal Hill store has people who dont know what they are doing.... I had to have my paperwork checked 2 times since they count not check the Rossi out of the system.. They dont know what they are doing..!!

Spend your money with stores where employees get to know the customers and let you DROS with the 30% down..

You can DROS with the 30% deposit. We had the long standing policy that it had to be paid in full but changed it within the last year I think due to Cal Guns input. I am contacting all of the stores with a reminder of this policy change,

actually they don't say DROS cannot be started but waiting period will not begin until this invoice is paid in full, below their terms and conditions box that customers sign. It's sort of in the no man's land, that they need to clean up but I'm not holding my breath....

it's another Turner's BS policy that's supposedly has been changed at the top but not accepted by some stores' managers, nothing to do with state or federal laws on when things can be DROSed.

For someone who really cares, here's their contact information:
http://www.turners.com/turners/contactus.php

Well that is pretty much the same thing.. the " waiting period" we are all waiting for is the 10 days in which the DROS takes place.. cannot be started or ( begin) is the same meaning.. Thanks goodness Robz@Turners Cleared things up.. Lets hope all Turners Stores allow us to start the DROS if we would like to do so with the 30% down..

For the longest time, we didn't start DROS until the gun was paid in full but we did change that last year. If you have an issue where you are being told otherwise, please make contact with one of the managers in the store. If that doesn't resolve the issue PM us for assistance.
