Call 888-678-7894 and you do not need a sponsor until sometime in March. That's the way it needs to go. When that deal is up, I will resume helping out.

Robert, thanks for the info, and the work you are putting into getting all of us to do something we should have done years ago. I hope it makes a difference. I completed the lifetime membership online.

I'm assuming they will send me something in the snail-mail with membership info?

I also want to thank Robert for his time and effort that he has put into this for a lot of us. He helped me out on Friday and I too am just waiting for the rest to come from the NRA. My NRA membership was up for renewal in July, I'm now glad to be a Lifetime member but still plan on contributing yearly.

Robert also pointed me in the direction of SAF.org I'm now a member there also.

Thanks again Robert.

Signed up. Now, anyone activate their free firearms insurance benefits yet? Do I need to wait for my member number before enrolling?

Did it, without issues!

I had just previously given the NRA money to extend my membership, but this was a NO Hassle deal...

Thanks for providing this information!

PS I had tried earlier to get the lifetime membership deal with another persons account number, and was given the run-around. Too time consuming for me to follow up with, so I gave up.

This was EXTREMELY quick & painless!

Although I am mostly against a lot of the political BS I see with the NRA, recent events have made me feel the need to join. I just joined the NRA and gave $25 to CalGuns.

You guys do great work, please keep it up.

they do but not at the $300 pricepoint. The $300 deal is the best way. Save up, recycle some cans/bottles whatever you need to do to get there you can do it.

Some indoor ranges have 50% off for NRA members on select nights. I also got an AVIS car rental discount, but you have to have their code number, just view for more discounts

I spoke with member services and they said the expected wait time is 3-4 weeks to get your membership card number.

Default I am embarrassed to admit that I am a lifetime NRA member

As a member of the USAF pistol team in the 1980s I was given a free lifetime membership in the NRA (just as today one needed to be an NRA member to be able to compete in some competitions). At that time I never gave the NRA membership much thought. I liked to shoot, was pretty good at it, and a membership was required to compete. But over the years the NRA has become a caricature of exactly what most Americans are afraid of when they think of scary gun owners. The NRA's idea that arming everyone would somehow decrease gun violence is just crazy. The advertisement that the NRA recently ran that tried to compare the security needs of the Presidents children with that of your or my children is an insult to the intelligence of everyone who had the unfortunate experience of watching it.

I would like to be able to keep my guns but right now the biggest threat to our continued ability to do so is the I'll conceived gibberish coming from the NRA. We members of the NRA need to tell them to get with the program and stop talking crazy.

As a lifetime member, they should value your opinion and you should voice it to them.

On the other hand, I disagree with you. I sometimes get dissatisfied with the NRA, but probably for vastly different reasons than you.

I had a long argument typed up, and before I hit submit, I took it all out. The reason being is that I feel this thread is for helping people who want a NRA membership get one. Inevitably, as I have started similar threads on other forums, there are always those who try to turn it into a NRA bash thread. Until now, it is usually folks complaining that the NRA compromises too much.

Folks here have been real good about it.

If you are really ashamed of your NRA membership, why not resign? If I were so displeased, I would.

Have a good day.

I'm a member (5 year, expires in 2015)... not yet a life member, but it's high on my list.
I also signed up with life-membership to SAF a few months ago and GOA (which probably makes me a bit of a hypocrite below) in December.

I would wish to take the "take your concerns to them" route, rather than the resignation... resignation means one no longer has a voice.

Meanwhile, I at least half agree with captbilly (and I had a similar posting somewhere on CGN 6+ months back)... but also feel that it is an unfortunate effect of the political system we find ourselves in. Taking a moderate&sane stance when pitted against an insane/slobbering-at-the-mouth enemy... Well, compromise btwn moderate and insane is still insane. Albeit I can't say that compromise btwn insane#1 and insane#2 makes sane.

If we want the NRA to be a sane/moderate voice, we first need to bring in more members who are themselves moderate gun owners... At present the NRA is using fear tactics b/c it seems to motivate their base. Perhaps with the increase in gun controls more moderate ppl will join and shift the debate. I can only hope.

Dude, you are thread crapping. This is a positive thread created to help people become NRA life member. Robert is a great guy for doing all of this for us. Please delete your thread and start an " NRA bashing thread" elsewhere. That and contact the NRA to express your displeasure.

Ok, positive energy back on!
