Question How many guns can you sell guns per year without a FFL?

sorry but i must be searching the wrong terms because there must be a thread with this already but i cant find it and i figured id get the fastes and most accurate answer on this forum.

how many guns can you sell per year if you are not a FFL?

is it a calendar year, or a year from each sale?

what happens if you sell more than that?

is getting a FFL to sell your own guns create more trouble than it solves?

im asking this because i buy, sell and trade guns on calguns and to people i shoot with, and i dont want to get in trouble for selling too many guns in a year. often a gun im selling or trading is one i bought just weeks or months before, but decided i didnt like it and decided to sell or trade it. do i need to get a FFl if im going to sell or trade more than X number of guns in a year, even if theyre my own guns and not at a profit?

thanks

The Feds say less than six handgun transactions per year.
That means a max of five.
But, you can have more than one handgun on each transaction.
Unlimited long guns sales but be carefull.
All gun sales must be done "infrequently or without regularity"...it cannot look like you are in the business of constantly buying and selling guns for a profit.

That's CA, not Feds; I don't know what metric BATF might use for accusing one of 'being in the business' without an FFL.

would the fact that i actually lose money on these resales work in my favor? i can certainly prove they were sold at a loss or at most breaking even.

Probably not; unsuccessful businesses are still businesses.

CA-DOJ has a couple of times been sensible; in one thread at Calguns, someone called them about dispersing a large collection, and DOJ said that would be OK as a 'one time' thing.
