Default M1A prices

So I'm trying to save up for an M1A Scout or Socom 16 but every tike I check the prices keep going up. I just saw the Socom 16 at Turners for $1899. That's over 2 Gs after tax and DROS. Anyone know where the best values are?

Order from here and ship to a FFL. They will tack on between $35 and $100 depending on who you use and they will add tax now... that sucks.

I picked up a new Scout in black stock for $1335 shipped!!! And this was before the tax law....

Do not spend $2000 at a local shop and blow $200+ unnecessarily. Spend that on ammo and mags!

I got my Socom 16 at Turners, and yup! Just a hair over 2k. If your looking for a nice rifle in .308, you can go with a Ruger Gunsite Scout. I shot one last night and Ill be adding one to my collection soon. The RGS cost about $750

I have a few M1A's and imho if you can get it used you're much better off. I've seen SOCOM's in the marketplace go for as low as $1200-$1300 in near perfect condition. You can easily save $800+.

A used M1A with less than a 1k rounds through it has plenty of life left. With decent maintenance and using good ammo you can easily get 9k-10K+ rounds out of an M1A before needing to replace the barrel. I'm guessing if you're going with the Scout or SOCOM then combat accurate is sufficient and even by the 9k-10k round mark you may not notice if accuracy is dropping.

Personally I've only purchased one of my M1A's brand new and to be honest I have absolutely no doubts that my used ones are just as durable, reliable, and accurate as nib. I love the M1A platform.

The going price two years ago for the Scout was $1600 for a retailer (maybe a touch on the high side, actually). I see them pop on the forums a bit more frequently. I would take the time and save up to about $1600 and as you get close to that number start shopping around the classifieds or see if any local shops can work a deal. I don't know if you intend to get it spanking new, but whatever money you save you can use on milsurp ammo. Good luck.

I shot the range gun, which probably has hundreds of rounds through it. I didnt notice any issues.
On the M1A-yeah, Ive seen a few pop up here on forums, like eggfriedrice said. You can get a great deal if you go used, especially here. Im thrilled with all my calgun purchases.

I would save up a little more and buy a LRB M1a! way, way better quality. Springfields have made in Taiwan cast parts. LMT forged GI parts .

I don't mind used as long as its in good shape. I was hoping to spend no more the around1600. I have to sell 1-2 guns then save the rest. I hate to sell guns but I really want that M1A. What other options do I have for a 308 semi auto non pistol grip?

The M1A is the perfect rifle for you. Sell your two guns, save up, and be forever happy.

You could look at the M1 Garand. If you don't mind the longer length and 30-06 cartridge, they can be had for around $700-800 in great shape from the CMP.

Don't waste your time with the Saiga 308. Unconverted it is an ungainly hog of a weapon.

Go get a used one. I see them going for anywhere from 1100 and up and a lot of times there are accessories in the price. Unless you are squeamish about buying a previously used gun, there can be some good values out there. Some people like only new guns and they don't even look at used ones. That's ok also if you don't mind spending the cash.
Most of the "used" guns you see for sale have very light to barely any use. My last used gun i sold I barely had 50 rounds through it and it looked BNIB. I have some guns that i shoot the bejesus out of them and some that I bought and later sold because i simply did not like them. So buying a "used gun" is not a bad deal sometimes.
Turners has them but you will be in the 2K range. your other option as someone said is to go online and buy out of state. Even with the receiving fees and taxes you will be below buying in state.

one cheap(er) option i am not sure anyone mentioned is a Norinco or Polytech M14. Those seem to go for about 8-1K.

Sell your other guns, save some money be patient. There are extended periods when there are no used M1a's for sale on Calguns. Just when you are about to quit looking a bunch show up.

When it rains it pours. Also, keep an eye on "m1a forum" and "m14forum". Those sites are dedicated to M1a/M14 with lots of goodies for sale at fair prices on their classifieds.

Another option is to buy a Fulton Armory barreled action (on sale this weekend) for $900 and add a $600 USGI parts kit from CMP.

I've contacted Buds before and was told that they don't ship to California.

If that's the case, why do they (Bud's) stock California Specific M1As?
