Default Marlin 795 for $164.99 a good price?

I'm debating whether or not to take advantage of Big 5's "sale" on the Marlin 795 for $164.99. I figure with tax and DROS, i'll pay close to $200. That just doesn't sound right to me.

Any thoughts on whether this is a good price, or suggestions where I can find one that's cheaper. I don't mind getting a used one either.

Thanks for your help.

It's not a good price.

I paid $124 + fees on Black Friday. I actually got the rebate a week ago. Wait until the end of March and see if Marlin brings the rebate back. They did in 2010 and 2011.

In December Turners had them for $134.99 and Marlin was offering a $25 rebate on top of that. Turners also had the Marlin 60 for $159 couple weeks ago so I would say wait if your not in a rush. Make sure you browse through the marketplace. That's probably where you'll get the best deal if you come across one.

Thanks for your feedback everyone. I'm not in a hurry to buy one and am willing to wait for another rebate or find a calgunner willing to sell.

Wow, I bought mine at Big 5 on sale for $130 or so, and then sent in the $25 rebate.

Something is awry here...

You know what...try some of the pawn shops around you. They just might have what you are looking for. You can also haggle at a pawn shop or sell them your stuff to over the cost of the firearm.

I think good deals on the 795 is going be harder to come by since it's such a popular and highly demanded gun. Also, if you see factory 10rd magazines for about $15-17 buck I HIGHLY recommend you grab a couple. Nobody has them right now.

on black friday, the big 5's i visited were all sold out of 795's. I think even some time after black friday that they were still sold out. Eventually I was able to get a 795 at the big 5 on Hesperian in San Lorenzo because the manager (i think) is really good and allows you to order firearms even if they are out of stock. I was able to get my firearm 10 days later starting the day after the purchase.

The demand for the 795 is probably the explanation for the increased pricing.

Yes the demand and being the cheapest rifle out there the only way to go is up. As far as popular .22 rifles go the 10/22 is next on the list and it's a good $50 higher than the 795. $150-160 is probably as high the 795 can go and still sell.

Guns are getting more expensive (what isn't?). Last August Turners had the GSG 1911 on sale for $319. Now the sale price is $349. The Hi-Point 9mm Carbine was $299 on sale but now it's $319. If you see a good deal and you got money in your pocket you should probably jump on it.

Heh...the good days are gone.

I picked up my rifle for $134 + tax + DROS - $25 rebate so the total came out to be $155. It's really an incredible bargain for this rifle.

Paid $135 otd after rebate. If you understand economics, seems inflation is catching on. Prices are rising for everything. Be prepared now. Ammo was cheaper years ago before I got into guns.

I hit up the Big 5 at 5:15 on Black Friday and one was out, the other one had 1 left, which I got. I have two Big 5's within 2 blocks.

If you get into the Central Valley, Dick's Sporting Goods in Modesto had the 795 for $139 everyday pricing around the first of the year. Don't know if they've upped the price any since. If you're in the area you might want to give them a call.

Whatever you get do it now. I've seen the same gun go on sale twice at Big 5 (not the marlin) go on sale in the last 3mos. Each tine it went up $20.

Have you checked the sale boards here? I've seen decent prices.

Picked mine up about two months ago for $150ish after DROS. A nice shooter indeed!

If you look around a bit fair deals can be had. I picked up 2 Glenfield 75Cs for about $125 each. Both nice exaples, one a Glenfield Scoped squirrel combo and the other is the model that looks like an M1 carbine, with a 10 shot tube and sling swivels. PAX
