Default Addax Tactical .308 upper was well worth the wait (build inside)

Well it was a long hall for this baby but I am sure glad I purchased it. Thanks to DPMS Bolts holding this baby up about 2 months, it finally arrived this week and took her out today.

I purchased the .308 Addax Tactical Guardian Upper Receiver. Chris at Addax was great to work with allowing me to customize my order down to the 16” barrel from the original 18” fluted one. Yes Yes I know an 18” is great with the .308 and why go for the 16”. Why not, for the distance I will be shooting, the 16” will be enough. The 16” will still drive those rounds out if needed.

I took her out today and it ran perfect. No issues what so ever, very smooth and might I say this thing is a friggen tack driver. Took about 4 rounds to zero in and then she was unstoppable. Woot Woot!!

Thank you Chris from Addax Tactical Well worth the wait!! And thanks for the Schwag!

One thing I find about the DPMS bolt carrier that it has no grooves for the forward assist. So for my uppers, I removed the forward assist and put in a delrin plug.

The upper is not cheap, but with those high quality parts and components plus great workmanship and results at the range, it is really worth the wait and money. Any AR custom work that you get from Chris is really worth it: I got an Addax ZK GPU, a great product that will take me forever to write a review. I am getting one of his mil-spec DI uppers (I am really looking forward to it), their billet lowers (things of beauty in both 5.56 and .308) and I will be ordering a custom DI upper in the future.

To the OP, triggs75, congrats. Your upper and entire rifle is beautiful. I bet it shot as good as it looks.

Several for Chris and the Addax staff for all their quality work and services.

Looks great. Handled one in the shop yesterday. Addax is A-1 in my book -- Chris is so super involved with the contraction of every piece that goes through there -- he has my utmost confidence --

Here are three of my favorite ARs -- built by Chris --

The first ADDAX we shot --

Call or visit the shop if you are in the San Fernando valley area -- Chris and Lale will take care to get you the gun you want!

Triggs,

Your .308 Rifle looks Awsome!

Thanks for the post with pics, and for the good word about our Guardian .308 Upper.

Post up some accuracy shots when you get a chance.

Our .308 barrels that Blackhole Weaponry makes for us are fantastic, and we have been extremely impressed with their accuracy and durability/longevity.

Thank you for being patient and waiting for your upper.

Chris

Definitely, they are always my stop whenever I go to ASR as they're only 15 minutes away. Besides, they are my AR people, Chris is Da Man.

The forward assist can sometimes work with the DPMS .308 Bolt Carrier, if the bolt carrier is about 1/4" to 1/2" back from being fully closed. Basically the blunt end of the forward assist button is pushing against a part of the carrier body.

I asked DPMS why they never cut forward assist serrations, and their response was they did not feel it was necessary...

We are also waiting for Young Mfg .308 carriers which will have the forward assist serrations. We tested one of these carriers out last summer, and we really liked it.

Thanks again Chris for the build, well worth the wait. I took it out again and was shooting 100yds with the 1-4 scope and that baby is accurate.

That's because the FA doesn't use the notches. It pushes on a raised portion of the BCG on the left side of the ejection port. That's how the FA works on the DPMS type uppers.

I suggest putting that baby back in!

No thanks. If the carrier is not going into the battery on a 308, I'm not about to force it. My other uppers don't have the provision for the FA. The forward assist is useless to me.

And why would DPMS sell smoothside uppers on their Panther that have no FA? As I've said, useless.

Agreed. I haven't any interest in shooting a round that will not chamber naturally from the action or by pulling the charging handle back and releasing. The last thing I want is an out of battery explosion. Only in a firefight would I ever attempt to do so, where my life depended on it.

It is funny the size difference in the Bolt carrier Groups of the .308 to the 5.56.

OP - I think I got your original 18" fluted barrel from Chris with my Guardian build :-)....thanks! You saved me a fair amount of wait time!

I want to echo all the positive comments on Addax/Chris. Since I got my guardian my REPR and P-308 aren't seeing any of the action they used to. Tremendous build!

Nice looking build! I'm definitely interested in seeing some groups out of that BHW barrel, as I have one going into my next build. Love the color BTW. Some of the pics of your lower in the 308 build thread inspired me to paint one of my AR-15 rifles the same color. So...... When is the rest of your rifle going to get painted?

As for the forward assist, I'd leave it in place. The Germans have basically the same device on the side of the PSG-1 sniper rifle, only they call it a "Silent Bolt Closure". If nothing else, it might come in handy some day if you ever take the rifle hunting and for whatever reason need to cycle the action and ensure the bolt is in battery without making a lot of noise.

Thank you and will post some up next time I go out. As for the color, I just did the lower because i did not like the way the CMMG coating was on it. I like the two tone look

And yeah the forward assist will stay on. It's not in the way.
