Exclamation Group Buy: Crate of Mosins!!! (March 3rd)...Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 [CLOSED]

UPDATE: CLOSED, List of members to be refunded is on page 22, post #852.

Hey guys, and a few gals,

Okay, I am making the "2012 Crate O' Mosin's Gun Run" official. I will be heading out to J&G Sales on Saturday, March 3rd.

This GB will be for Round Receiver Russian Mosin-Nagant M1891/30. (C&R, CASH & CARRY)
Comes with bayonet, ammo pouches, and the usual accessories. "Arsenal refinished in very good to excellent condition." - J&G

Here's what you need to know as follows...

- RULES / REQUIREMENTS FOR DIBS:

1. You are not a prohibited person. This will be Cash & Carry (or ship). No 03 or 01 FFL needed.
2. PM me with your request, if you need it shipped, and your info: (Full name, address, phone#, CDL#)
3. (a) Deposit for at least 50% of total MUST be made to reserve your selection. Full Crates must pay in full.
(b.) Full deposit is preferred and appreciated, but required at pick-up or in order to ship.
(c.) Acceptable forms of payment are cash, US Postal Money Orders, other money orders...in that order.
(d.) Payments must be post marked by Wednesday, February 22nd.
4. Items must be picked up in Carlsbad, North San Diego County, 92010. Pick-up appointments can be made starting Monday, March 5th.
5. There are exceptions to every rule, but only on a case by case basis. (PM me.)

Keep in mind the term "Group Buy" is a relative term. I am buying as many crates as I can afford at the time. This is to better my personal collection. This is a chance for adventure, and to do something most people can't to better their collection. Understand you are placing "Dibs" on leftovers of what I won't be keeping. This is no different than buying several packs of baseball cards with the intent of increasing my chances to get certain MVP's, and trading the rest to my friends. The purpose of paying up front isn't to help me buy more crates. It's to secure your dibs. Money talks and deposits show commitment.

~ J&G said they don't have a reliable supply of hex. Currently they have ten so that's what I am assuming I will buy. I will buy as many hex as they have on hand.

- PRICES (All prices now include recent price increase and 9.35% AZ sales tax.)

* 91/30 Round Receiver ~ $115 ea. Pick-up / $140 ea. Shipped
+$10 for Tula. Only four (4) reserves allowed per crate.

* 91/30 Round Receiver Crate (20) ~ $2150 ea. Pick-up only (in wood box crate.)[Must pay in full to reserve.]

If you were to be a backup driver that might work well for some of the NorCal folks for pick-up.

Also, go easy on the hex's guys. They have 10 in stock right now, and there's no guarantee that will be the case in 5 weeks. I'm going to say that 5 for sure should get them, but the bottom 5 need to be okay with getting a round.

I've always wondered how this is not considered multiple straw purchases? Since you are collecting money in advance and purchasing rifles with your license with the intent of selling them, it just seems like it would be hard to explain it any other way. Am I missing something here?

Very good price on the full crate Expertish.

When I got mine from Aim, it was 1400... + 250 freight shipping... and I don't have an ffl, so had to do some negotiations not be pay out the nose from my ffl. Total cost to me was about 1900, not including the time it took up to do the 10 day wait and make 2 separate trips to the ffl and back.

1800 is a smoking deal if they only need to visit you once to pick them up. If I had mroe money... I just might think about a second crate

My understanding is that a straw purchase is when the intent is to purchase a firearm for a person who is normally prohibited. First and foremost, I'm buying all the rifles myself for the betterment of my collection, and intend on taking exactly what I want for the benefit of my collection. I will be keeping as many as I deem necessary. I just know that there will be many leftovers of what I don't want or need, and I'm asking people to give dibs on what they most interested in.

I personally have money enough to buy several crates, or will once my tax return comes in. Hence why I'm making the trip 5-weeks from now. I just think it's wise to collect money up front so I'm not left with an arsenal for a long period of time. I obviously don't want to run afoul of the law so if someone disagrees and has legal knowledge to back it up then please say so. However, say it HERE. I'd like to keep this thread for people interested and as clean as possible now that it's in the FS forum.

Where are you located? I won't have my sons that weekend and would be interested in going, possibly buying a Mosin or two.

Let me know.

FYI, if I send you a total double check it. It seems math is not my strong point today. Also, make sure I have you down correctly on the list.

I apologise if this is not an appropriate post for this thread, but I am interested in a few of these and I am wondering what the quality is of these crate mosins? Have they all been headspace checked, is there a chance of getting a real turd out of this or will they all be decent or better? I figured this is pertinant to those interested in this, thats why I posted it. Thanks, Grant.

Mosins were dipped in their cosmo bath and put in crates after being re-arsenaled by the Soviets. Now, it's entirely possible (I suppose), that after their proper Soviet re-arsenaling and packing into the crates, that whatever country stored them took them out, screwed with them to no end, shot them a whole bunch, and put them back into storage without re-arsenaling again... I just find it unlikely.

FWIW, my crate from Aim came with probably the closest thing to mint condition Mosins I have ever seen. No rings around the bolt face. Bright bore (bright as it could be, they are still filled with cosmoline), basically new looking. You can be pretty confident that when these were crated, it was done shortly after being gone over for the final time by the Soviets so they could be stored in working order. They didn't really want to waste their time crating and preserving guns that would have problems if they were ever unpackaged...

Any place online that has been selling crated Mosins (Aim, Classic Arms etc.) always has them listed in Very Good to Excellent condition. That is what a Crated Mosin should be.

I'm going to say Monday the week of will be the latest for you procrastinators. Being that this is a Group-Buy-That-Isn't, I can probably even accommodate a few people after the fact.

All my ride-alongs are filled, but looking for two alternates in case someone can't come through.

I'm really interested in this but I don't know anything about Mosins....I take it the Hex receivers are the more desirable ones?

And by C&R...is it literally hand you cash and I get to drive home with the gun even if I don't have a C&R license and what not??

There's a quirky aspect of the law which is that long guns older than 50 years old are good for private party transfer within California.

Oh, and I'm less sure about this bit, but I believe the hex ones were older, pre-WW II, and made with more care. As you might imagine Russia was really cranking them out by the end...

Default Hex's On Hold

At this time all the Hex Receivers are tentatively spoken for. I'll add drop people in two weeks if payments haven't heard from people.

As far as the last day to send payment, I'm giving a loose deadline of Monday, February 27th to be post marked.

damn now I kind of want a Hex. Hey Expertish, any chance I can get in on a hex if someone drops out? I'll be riding up with you so I can just pay out of my own pocket...

We'll just have to see what the stock is like when we get up there. I'm hoping they have more than the 10 they have now. Catching up on the PM's at the moment. I have 12 unread at the moment and making a roster. Bear with me if I haven't gotten back to you. For everyone else, please check the list up top and make sure I have you listed for what you want correctly.

Also, just added a wait list to the Hex if that's what you really want, or what you only want. Let me know.
