Michael (EBR Works), please start the process to get a SSE for this. It will be a hot seller!

Another decent gun that won't be sold to civilians without jumping through unnecessary SSE hoops.

Pretty sure it won't be on the roster. Saw a video taken at the Shot Show and a fellow was able to dry fire without a magazine. Ergo, no magazine disconnect. I love California, I feel so safe knowing I am protected from myself.

Pretty much spot on size of my XD9 Sub. I love .45, but 5+1 of 45 or 10+1 of 9mm? I will stick with 5 extra rounds before a reload.

I still want one!

The only thing missing from the XDS is the striker cocked indicator. It has a fiber optic front sight, and it is one inch thick, making it perfectly pocketable. I havne’t seen what XD gear the XDS will come with, but I hope it is a pocket holster.
I do believe that is a "loaded chamber indicator". Are LCIs required in CA to be safe?

XD's normally have a cocked indicator and loaded chamber indicator.

When the XDm came out, beyond the lack of a magazine disconnect, supposedly California told Springfield that the loaded chamber indicator was not large enough. They apparently now want something that has writing on it saying if you see this gizmo, the gun is loaded. Ruger's Mark III and my Ruger SR9c both have huge loaded chamber indicators with warnings on them. I'm amazed they don't require multiple languages and a robot ala Lost in Space yelling "Warning Will Robinson....".

The cocked indicator is not something required by Californina, it is a magazine disconnect and a loaded chamber indicator (with neon signs) that will keep you from a negligent discharge.

Whether or not the story about the XDm failing in two categories is true, certainly the lack of a magazine disconnect has doomed many guns from easily crossing the the borders of California.

The XD series has both - "striker status indicator" and a "loaded chamber indicator". The XDS still has the "loaded chamber indicator" on top of the slide, but missing the "striker status indicator" on the rear of the slide.

(chim-chim7 beat me to it!)

Most likely the only way to get it is via SSE, or by the luck of chance via PPT from a LEO deciding to sell theirs shortly after they get it.

What I'm curious to know is how much will the gun retail for. I assume it's going to be around the XDM price, so expect to pay a good $600+ on the gun before any SSE fees and taxes & DROS (close to $800 OTD).

Personally, I'm more intersted in seeing the 9mm version of the XDs, and how those dimensions, weight, and round capacity turns out.

Typical journalist..."I don’t know how many times we need to say that Springfield Armory is always raising the bar, but Springfield Armory is always raising the bar."

When in reality, Springfield has invented the Glock 36.

But nonetheless, serious kudos to Springfield since the G36 has the ergonomics of a Glock, and that is something that the XD line will never be accused of.

Woohoo, about time they worked on the trigger put these into the regular XD's or at least the competition series.

Also, looks like they switched the extractor to the outside.

I would love a XD-S 9mm in 3.8"+ with a 9 or 10 round mag capacity grip.

While there is already a compact single stack .45 in the marketplace Glock does not have single stack 9s or 40s. I'm not an XD fan but this does put some pressure on Glock.

Its roughly the same size as a sub compact XD which tips the scales at 26oz.

The top ( narrowest ) portion of the sub compact slide measures .953 and overall length of the SC is 6.06ish.

Is that extra 3oz really going to kick your ***

I dont see the striker retaining pin ontop of the slide. Looks like haters wont have to complain about that being a weak spot on the xds.

XD

XDS, notice no striker retaining pin.

People complaining 29oz are either midgets or bench max weight of .5 lbs.

Looks good. I might have to get one.

I got to hold this guy at SHOT. It's a great pistol. I don't know where the criticism is coming from for the 29oz, but it's very light and a fully loaded magazine of 5 rounds doesn't weigh that much.

It's a carry pistol and a compact one for a 45. It fits in the palm of my hand. The trigger is heavy on the specs at 10lbs, but the take-up is smooth and breaks pretty clean for a factory pistol.

I would pick this up in a heartbeat if it was available in CA.

What pressure? Springfield doesn't offer a single stack 9 or 40 in polymer, either.

I'm very glad to see them do it, and they look like superb offerings, but the XDS is a refined Glock 36, just as the XDm 5.25 is a refined Glock 34. They'll have some effect on Glock's sales, but I doubt it will be enough to inspire Glock to change very much.

When they do a single stack 9mm, I'll be interested.

When S&W gets smart and does something both "single stack" and "polymer" besides the Walther PPS(not S&W, but they import them), I'll have one.

I do applaud Springfield, but I hope others soon join the bandwagon.

Wish they did the body guard in 9mm.

Let's all sign a petition for SA to make a 9mm XDS. Well for me, XDS40.

Even though I'm not an XD fan(of any model) I'm down.

I have nothing against SA, and I would like those that are SA fans to get the products they ask for.

Like I said, it may prompt others to fill produce them more regularly.

I thought it was already announced at SHOT show that Springfield was already planning on doing a XD-S in 9mm and .40 this year, but came out with the .45 version first.

I think the XD-S 9mm would be their answer to a Bodyguard 9mm. Although, with how the market and industry is moving towards these days (very high emphasis on personal protection & defense), if a gun company wants to stay ahead of the game then they're going to need more 'pocket' pistols in various calibers to fill that demand.

but... but... welll, um.... you win

The only downside is the cylinder on an N frame is pretty wide and the overall dimensions are quite a bit larger, making it harder to conceal than a subcompact pistol.

How do you like magnum loads out of it? Seems like it would be brutal.

With my loads: When the gun fires, it feels like your hand just exploded. You see a giant flash of light and flame where your hand once was. A few moments later your hand magically reappears. Times 6.

A 9mm version is coming (and I've read elsewhere a .40 version is also coming):

As a die-hard revolver fan, I'm starting to see the light on the slimmer semi-autos for carrying now that I have a CCW... The revolvers are alot harder to conceal.
