Default Bored with the AR what else is out there?

Well with the 10 to 12 daily threads about "my new AR" or question about uppers" and the 90% AR dominated gun shows i have personally grown kind of bored of them. Love the platform there's just an overabundance of the garden variety AR at the moment. Not to mention everyone and their mom has one, which is also understandable. I have basically So as my tax refund is approaching i have been leaning more towards the Scar, Acr, Sig 556 and the XCR. I have spent very limited time with the first 3 and all were fairly impressive. Any other suggestions besides the HK or LWRC? I'm looking more towards piston guns, prefer something side-charging and I'm more into combat style weapons not bench guns. Also not looking for an AK.... Mainly something not everyone has. I'm not looking foe ooh's and ahh's just something less common. Prefer to keep stanaag magazine compatibility, but I'm also looking at some .308's. Easy caliber interchangeability would also be a huge plus

Try an F2000. They're pretty damn cool. Maybe put a big expensive 1x/4x optic on it if you like that kind of thing. Or if you really want to go nuts, get a Kel-Tec RFB.

FS2000 is one of those oddball military style rifles that everyone who has one seems to love. It's nice to switch it up with a bullpup yet still be able to use all those readily available AR mags. However, they aren't exactly on the cheap side. You may be able to find a used one at a decent price. Also, now bullet buttons and muzzle extensions to make them CA OK are pretty easy to find.

Just some food for thought, YMMV.

Edit: Well, claymore beat me to the punch, but that now makes it two votes for the FS2000.

In my mind none of those are anything more than boutique versions of an AR; expensive platforms to launch the same projectiles.

If the newest piston system floats your boat, than by all means, support your local gun shop and make a liberal wet themselves at the sight of your evil FDE rifle I kinda like the looks of the SCAR, but I wouldn't kick the XCR out of bed either.

Seriously though...what's the best AR and the cheapest place to buy it and which mags do you use and how many of them should I get for a shtf scenario? I ask because none of this has EVER been asked or answered anywhere on the internet.

if you aren't already ready for SHTF, yer already too late!

On topic: I dunno about that whole 'bullpup' thing, my gut says don't trust it, but then I think it should be given a chance to prove itself - torn!

Well, I dislike ARs (always found the recoil "sproing" to be annoying), but I wanted something in 5.56, so I picked up a Sig 551A1 recently, and I couldn't be happier. Basically similar to a Sig556, except it's a closer clone of the actual Swiss Sig SG551 (not a perfect clone, mind you, but a much closer one).

Looks like a match-grade trigger group is coming out for the Sig556 / 551A1 at the end of the month as well, which is a plus.

Another one that hasn't been mentioned yet is the Vector V93. I've heard nothing but good things about it, and it's certainly a departure from the average AR.

ARs are fun, easy to DIY, ammo relatively cheap, yet still effective. I do agree about same questions rehashed over and over and same redux over on other forums. Every now n then I find something useful tho. BTW longtime lurker here. Have learned quite a bit in pieces. Useless drab is quickly passed over.

I personally love the AR platform, I just find it extremely amusing/annoying that so many people start the same threads DAILY. There is so much information out there and so easy to find an answer and yet people still are too lazy to do a search, instead they start a thread and wait for answers to come to them.

Benelli MR1. I got one
Good little rifle. Use any mags You want and no BB. Got an Aimpoint PRO on mine. Few guys in my department have them. Very reliable, practical rifles w/o limitations of bb and 10 round mags.

There is an easy way to fix that. Stop answering their questions and tell them to stop being lazy and use the search button. It doesn't help the problem when people post into those threads.

Personally I like the 556. Only reason I didn't say FS2000 is because it wasn't in the OP.

Or you can just let it be and help or ignore the threads. That's the beauty of the internet, you don't have to participate if you don't want to. Rather than trying to control others' actions, people can choose to simply use the "block" mode in their head. I think it's tempting to read and get all into it though, human beings weren't really designed for so much instant and in-your-face stimulation. I seriously have an urge to tell idiots on youtube comments to STFU but the zen in me has taught me long time ago it really doesn't accomplish anything and spreads negativity and problems.

Lol well i did say any suggestions. In all seriousness i like the fs2000 concept and they certainly aren't common. I just heard they suck in CA config on a few different occasions now

I usually skip the numerous threads asking the same questions over and over again as the AR is SUPER easy to understand/work on and what not... Just get a variant caliber as opposed to the usually 5.56... I own 3 AR's, soon to be 4, and none are chambered in 5.56 (7.62x39, .50 Beowulf, 9MM, and soon a 7.62x39 Pistol) and I will probably never own an AR in 5.56... I like the fun & challange of getting a variant AR working at 100% as opposed to what every internet keyboard jockey seem to think... My next project after the AR pistol will probably be a .300 WSM or maybe a .450 Marlin depending on if I want another big bore but in an AR10 platform

I've always liked AR's, and they've grown on me since I joined the Army and fired my first M16A2. But I never loved them. There are just too many other cool rifles out there to just be stuck to the AR the whole time.

Swap out the flash hider for the longer muzzle brake to fix the feature and the OAL issues, then slap a solar tactical grip wrap on it. Fairly inexpensive fix, and it's pretty comfortable too.

Have to disagree with you there buddy. The MP-5 is a boutique version of an UZI because it can after and was inspired by the UZI. As for those rifles te OP mention they are the same also. Just upgraded ARs that people want mostly for the "Cool" factor. Now as for the OP I suggest an AK. Cheap, fun and you can find as much stuff for it as you can an AR. Even if you decide not to barbie it, it'll still look cool in old school wood and will rarely FTF for you.

Also complaining about AR on this forum is like complaining about the sunshine in southern Califonia.

There are alot of Ar threads, so we can agree on one thing. There is a reason for this, its a good gun. If you are sick of AR's than get yourself a real rifle and buy a LR-308
