Virgin builds are a PITA, I sold a virgin Krink...it was then re-sold a couple more times, I don't know if anybody ever got around to building it.

This is tempting but requires a ton of work since it is a virgin kit. For $500 I would probably tackle the project but at $600 I'll have to sleep on it (for a few weeks).

I can guarantee the importer didn't pay anywhere near $600 for these kits, we are getting screwed by these importers/retailers.

The barrels will be at least $100. So add that to the cost of the kit.

Who said no money, I didn't. I'm just saying that $600 for a virgin kit is crazy. At the rate that parts kits have been increasing it won't be long until a parts kit costs what you can buy a complete rifle for.

Well you are looking at about $900-$1000 for the kit, barrel, receiver and US parts when its all said and done. Then the building process , if you send it out to be build is going to be around $3-500 depending on builder and finish.

If the kits are selling for that price, then the only ones crazy are those that are buying them.

For those in the Free States, with Magazine $624.00 (please offer a disassembled re-build option!!)

https://www.apexgunparts.com/product...oducts_id/2529

Anybody know if the East German Weiger STG941/942 Virgin Chrome Lined Barrels could be re-profiled to M85?

I don't know much about krinkovs but is it a little strange that they are 5.56/.223?

Not really. The Bulgarians also make them in 5.56/.223 (SLR-106UR).
Even the East Germans made the Weiger STG941/942 (5.56/.223) assault rifle.
However, Larry Vickers says chambering is more reliable with the tapered case design of Soviet munitions.

For some of us just being able to add an M85 to the collection is great since they only imported 50 demilled M85 kits.
Yes building a virgin kit is a ton more work but for a builder
Like me it's a nice change.
Try finding one built for sale for less than $2000
Personally picked mine up from Blackthorne with the Wilson barrel.
At the point I am at the more obscure kits appeal to me more than something I have 2 or 3 of.
I will post pictures when complete.

Man, I must be crazy but the underfolder version doesnt appeal to me so much. I love me sidefolderz.

I guess it could be built into a sidefoler though...

Not a sidefolder like the Russian or Bulgarian. The M85 and M95/M90A has a bulged trunnion like the M70. Won't be as easy as with a slabside trunnion to build into a sidefolder.

Don't bet the farm on only "50" being imported. Blackthorn shows 114 M85 kits in stock. That does not take into account the amount already sold as well as the APEX kits or the kits held by Atlantic or Arms of America.

Probably more like 500 +imported so far.

Virgin kit? Crappy.
No original barrel? Total deal breaker.

That is exactly what i was talking about. Plenty of virgin kits to be had for sure.

Perhaps the 50 number is made up. All I know is I don't see demilled M85 kits with original barrels very often, and when I do they demand high dollars. That to me denotes rarity.

@Drickel
Virgin kits crappy????
One of my best shooting AKs was built from (mostly) a virgin kit with a US barrel no less.

My thought is the gun is only as good as who builds it

I feel that only people who collect will appreciate the M85 popping up. This has been one of the harder Krinks (much less AK) to find. I know someone who just ordered 6 of them. LOL

You can have many other ak's for much cheaper, but as a collector (hoarder) I am very glad that these came across the pond. I find them to be a steal at $600.

I would say un-common. Something more rare would be a plum Bulgarian RPK kit with the original barrel and polymer folding stock.

psh virgin kits are fun . For the rarity, that price is a steal, especially in today's market. I don't anticipate the barrels being too expensive, and I would trust a US made 5.56 barrel 10 times over a US made 5.45 or 7.62x39 barrel.

This may be a dumb question. But could you use one of the Virgin E German Wieger Barrels from Apex on these kits? I was thinking of making a .223 under folder with a 16" barrel

The trunnion for the M85 is 23mm while the barrel is 22mm. You make the call.

Easier to build that Weiger barrel using on a Bulgy 74 kit.

Yes they are. My comment was to ott1 who countered your injection into this thread of your ad with the picture from the vendor whom the thread was about.

Not very classy injecting an ad for your wares into a discussion about the availability of a product at a competitor given they are still in stock.

i would think you guys that have built a number of AKs would be excited to take on the new challenges of a virgin kit.
