Default Can't find new 'furniture for AK/Bulgarian SLR-95 thumbhole stock

I am looking for new furniture for my Bulgarian SLR-95, Its been sitting for 14 years. It has a milled receiver. Most AK accessories are for stamped receivers. I want to replace the thumbhole stock with a pistol grip, folding or fixed stock. It's a registered assault weapon, OK to make changes.

Anyone know where I can find furniture that fits my milled SLR-95?

Or if you want polymer, K-Var has US made stock sets that are pretty good quality.

There are other options but this is pretty good. Ironwood also makes stock-sets for milled AKs but they don't look right to me, they do count as US parts. which is nice if you care about 922r.

Enjoy your conversion and post pics when you're done!

forgot to mention, you'll need to install a rear lower tang for the correct military type stock to fit. your receiver should already be milled to accept one, it's just not installed at the factory because of the thumbhole stock.

http://www.k-var.com/shop/home.php?cat=308

The lower tang is held in place by 2 rivets. You need to drill out the existing rivets first. Pressing the rivets is really easy to do if you have AK builder's rivet jig and a hydraulic press. If not you can get by with some nuts and bolts until you're ready to put some real rivets in place.

I have the ACE Folding stock on my RAW SLR95.

http://riflestocks.com/store/product58.html

edit:

This kit U will have to cut off the top tang with a dremel.

Milled AK has 15 parts with muzzle break. 14 without.
I replaced the following to be 922r compliant.
1) buttstock
2) pistol grip
3) Tapco G2 FCG (3 parts here)
4) upper/lower handguards

I replaced 6parts total.

last thing I would do (especially with something that is no longer made/legal to own/import) is permanently modify the receiver. Once you cut that off you ain't getting it back anymore, and bye bye resale value.

Still made in the US by Arsenal, still legal to own in rest of the Country, parts still be imported and assembled by Arsenal.

As far as I know, Warsaw/Chicom folders dont have Rear tangs.

Originally I had the ACE folding stock with External Block. Still using rear tang. It was big, bulky and looked like crap. Got the internal one minus rear tang and have no regrets. Looks like funcitons much better. I'll post some pics when I get home.

funny i kind of like my thumbhole

i wonder if you could just use the lower tang just screwed to the stock without riveting since it has that locking angle in its shape

Made in US, certainly still available. True Bulgarian Arsenal made ones? not so.

Factory folders don't have tangs, But that's not the same as cutting the rear tang (an integral part of the receiver) off of a factory FIXED stock receiver.

I went with a stock set for Ironwood Designs.
http://ironwooddesigns.com/IWDHome.html
Specific for Bulgarian Milled AK

The stock set was beautiful, fit very well, US made, and best of all supported a local guy. Matt knows his AKs so tell him what you are looking for and he will hook you up. Since my rifle (SA-93) was without the lower tang and did not have the receiver cuts for it, I purchased the stock that mounts like a shotgun stock. Not 100% accurate, but made the conversion a whole lot easier.
