Default DPMS AR 308 Carbon Fiber Handguard Mods

I bought a DPMS glue on carbon fiber handguard tube for my latest light weight 308 upper project.
I torqued the barrel nut and slid the carbon tube on to see how it was going to fit.
That's when I realized that if I glued it on at the 12 inch length it was I would not be able to get the gas tube out to ever take it apart.
I decided it had to be cut to allow the gas block and tube to be removed.
I know nothing about carbon fiber so I cut it with my bandsaw, a test cut to see if it was going to come appart or whatever carbon fiber might do, it cut without a problem, then the final cut to size, the bandsaw blade is toast but the handguard cut is just fine.
A little sanding and I was ready to glue it on.
After I had the carbon tube on the rifle I was trying to figure out how to mount a front sight, I was going to buy a gas block front sight when I found a JP handguard in my parts box with one of their screw on top rails.
The rail is held on by several 6-32 screws.
Can carbon fiber be drilled and tapped?
Well I gave it a test on one of the cut off pieces and then tugged on the screw with a pair of pliers and it held just fine.
So drilling and tapping was a go.
It turned out great and I am extremely happy with the results.
8.2 pounds as pictured for the complete rifle.
