Just curious. I've heard a few people bring it up. It was an indoor range that is no longer open. A squatter owns the domain beverlyhillsgunclub.com now.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that only existed in the world of Axel Foley.

No, it was a real place. It looked nothing like the one in the movie, and the area was far from being Beverly Hills. Was actually in West LA just off Bundy and Olympic, closed down in like 98 or something like that. I'm not exactly sure why, I remember hearing something about zoning or neighbor complaints? It was a cool spot though.

The city of LA passed a Saturday Night Special ordinance or some such nonsense a few years back. Shops in LA and other unincorporated areas of the city couldn't sell snubbies and some other small guns. As I understand it, guns with 2 inch barrels could no longer be sold. Not being in the city of LA we didn't pay a lot of attention to it.
The word I got was that BHGC had a gun on display that was prohibited from sale. The got nailed in a sting operation by the LAPD gun unit and were shut down. I knew some of the principles and the legal representation. They used to shoot at our place every weekend after they got hammered. It's just a matter of time before we all go down.

AFAIK, Ted Szajer of LA Guns was owner/part owner of the Beverly Hills Gun Club. Due to some of those things and change of focus, he/partners closed it. I know LEO & DOJ were unjustifiably hassling them, and Ted used to ***** about it, but I don't think those things caused a shut down. The hassle from an ungrateful city got too much, so Ted went over to West Hollywood and opened up LA Guns about the same time.
Now Ted has closed LA Guns and is only selling stuff on Auction Arms to NON-Californians. He's not selling to California citizens at all even if OK in CA. Maybe cause he wouldn't do OLLs his foot traffic died in 2006. He's pulled everything off his website, now starting in guitars. I think he got sick of CA laws - said so on his website in October. He might start sales again to CA citizens in the future? The current note on his website seemed like it. At least the website is still there - but I checked it jsut now and it's blank, it's just one page with their logo, and says Under Construction. Link below - the gun is legal in CA and exempt from DOJ list but he's not selling in CA. http://www.auctionarms.com/search/di...temnum=7881198

It's a shame that LA Guns has abandoned us in California. Also, I think it's a travesty that they are buying guns from Californians and shipping them out of state. |

It sucks! I would like to see a nation-wide boycott of LA Guns. But the rest of the country don't care about CA citizens and reap the rewards of our losses. They see this kind if thing to their advantage. LA Guns is doing gang-busters business on Auction Arms and all of their auctions have several bids. I see LA Guns going out of business as a commentary that their prices were always high and they refused to do OLLs. Their customer base probably dissappeared. You want to be really pissed off? I don't shop at LAGUNS because when I went to buy my first gun there, they said they only sell PERIOD to people over 21. I went in when I was 18 to buy my first rifle, I was mgoing to get that walther 22 rifle. Instead I ended up going to sharpshooters and buying my FN TPS. Then I bought my first SKS from sharpshooters. And I plan to do an FFL transfer in the month.... unless I run into something I can't pass up. AK with the new magazine by CWS. Now Since I bought my TPS. I have an unholy love for anything made by Fabrique National Herstal (I'm going to buy a PBR over a REM 700 )

I bought a couple of guns from LA Guns back in the day. The owners were professional and friendly when I did business with them. In fact, I was disappointed when they closed for business in California because I was eyeing a gun in their website at the time.
It sucks that the local political climate has made things tough for that line of work and for them, also. However, I can see the point about the bad in them funneling guns out of state.

I was a member of the Beverly Hills Gun Club on Exposition Blvd, and also the West Side Gun Club which replaced it. The BH gun Club was owned by Arthur Casell and then bought by the Dan Wesson family around 1994. They went bankrupt in 1996 and shut the doors. The West Side Gun Club opened in 1997. It was a members only, mostly high rollers and celebrities, much like the BH Gun Club was in the 70’s and 80’s. Best gun club I ever had the pleasure of using. Not as much traffic though as in the 70's and 80's asso I’m guessing not much profit either. L A Guns opened in 1993 well before any of the owner changes to the gun club so there is no connection between the two other than Ted, who also owns L A Guns owned a piece of West Side, and probably supplied the high rollers and celebrities who shot there. West Side Gun Club did not sell or rent any guns and was not closed down by the cops as far as I know. All the members felt that it was due to a partner dispute and lack of profit. They had their second and last Christmas party in 1998, and then closed the doors in the beginning of 1999. We were all sad to see it go. The place is now a studio. |

I've seen so many ranges shut down over the years. It's such a shame that politicians and nut job activists will do anything to find a loophole they can use to shut down a range. It kinda reminds me of how the neighboring city next to San Gabriel Valley Gun Club decided to build a bunch of houses in a canyon a few miles away and residents moved in all well knowing there was a range far away yet they still b*tched about being able to hear the gunfire far in the distance. Now the range is no more. Ryan and I used to shot there often since it was the only relatively close place we could shoot large bore rifles.
