Default Waffen Werks AK 74 vs Arsenal Sgl33

I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with these two rifles. I'm looking into buying an AK74 and was wondering what your thoughts were on the two rifles?

You are better off asking this question in dedicated AK forums. You won't get a unbiased opinion here. You'll be told to build one or buy a wasr and be done with it.

I'd get an Arsenal SGL31 over the SGL33 personally. Sorry I know that's not your question.

I don't have any personal experience with the Waffen Werks since it was out of my price range at the time but I would not hesitate to get one at all. They get positive reviews and make beautiful AK's. Kind of weird to say haha but I think they're just really nice, that Gun Cote works wonders and are built with parts matching virgin kits. I like Arsenals but your going to save some $ going with Waffen Werks and be just as happy if not happier+ more ammo.

People on here will preach that arsenals are cream of the crop yada yada yada, in reality they all function the same, as for fmunk up there an unbiased true ak site would reccomend alot of things besides assenals. Good luck and yeah I built both my bulgarian ak74's and I bet they shoot just as good or better than anything he has. 2 cases of ammo?

Lol!!!

As for the o.p. Question. A buddy of mine just picked up an arsenal. It's a very nice. On the pricey side though. Nice finish and furniture. Had a pretty good trigger too.

Could it be done cheaper? Sure. Does everyone want to do a build or conversion? Nope.

As for the waffen works...
Never tried one but still wished I jumped on a ak54r when Atlantic had them!

Do a search on AK forums...Waffen receives a lot of positive press from owners.

I would take the Waffen Works with Bulgy parts over a Arsenakl Saiga conversion all day every freaking day.

These SGL's never come in wood, right? That could be a thing to consider, OP, if your looking for wood furniture already on the rifle. Waffen offers both wood & poly. And umm..just to tout Waffen some more: The savings you get could get you a spam can of 1,080 rounds of 5.45x39

They are the same thing. An sgl 33 is am31 with a bullet button.

BUT...he is correct the arsenal bullet button isnt very good. Contact atlantoc and see if they will nstall a solar tqctical one on an sgl 31 instead...probably be the same price but better BB

Also as much as I love the sgl series for having AK100 series parts on it I actually prefer the look of the AK74 parts so you might want to consider that as well.

I believe it's U.S. made, don't know the maker. Might have to ask "Atlantic Firearms" here on Calguns.

AK74 is not on the list of banned rifles by name, neither is the Waffen Werks AK74, the CA DOJ said it had to have the exact name on the list to be illegal.

Exactly ^^^^

With the solar tactical lock you can easily remove it if you travel to a free state, or can easily convert your rifle to featureless if you later decide you are done with the mag lock completely.

I'm assuming you want a side folding stock, if so, go with something like this:

+1 on what Javi stated in his 1st post, so Waffen werks all the way, better finish & the wood furniture is irresistible...

.......... Either way its a win win!

Side folders are not compliant unless you run a long brake to make folded length 30".

Correct. I added an AimSmall extended Brake so I can utilize the folder on my Polish AKMS in 7.62x39.... It did help a bit with recoil, but for me recoil was never an issue & I think its overstated on 7.62x39...

Here's a video:

I hope you're not going with 5.45x39 because of the low recoil!!!.... lol...

I'm going 5.45 cause of the ammo being a whole lot cheaper.

If unhave money ammo price is factored on as the cost of a hobby.

I went 7.62 because I already have 3 rifles that shoot 5.56. 5.45 does shoot flatter than 7.62R.

Anyway, which length brake did you use to bring your underfolder into compliance? 5"?

4.75 inches, made by AimSmall, really cool brake/compensator.

Go with the Waffen Werks, they are very nice rifles, and have an amazing finish.
