Default Hate it- or love it. 30 Carbine 1911 7" Long Slide

Got what I think is a great deal on a very unique and different 1911 -

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=257698100

I'm either gonna hate it - Or love it.

"Unique and different" could be good or bad...

Kinda intrigued by a 85gr bullet at almost 2000fps out of a sidearm -

With 17 rounds at the ready with a reload.

Now I gotta find an ankle holster for it....

This seems to fit well with that other thread I saw earlier about someone looking for a "rifle cartridge" pistol, but didn't like the FN 5.7

Yeah - When I was considering one of these I had all kinds of people trying to warn me off -

I took it with a grain of salt - Talked to ACTUAL owners who ran them without any issues as long as they are kept lubed like you said.

This is the first one in decent shape with all the extras for less than $900 I've seen.

A bare 7" slide (in .45ACP) just sold on GunBroker for over $700....

The only thing I hate about it is I didn't see it first or I would have bought it.

Love it, thats actually fairly epic and its a completely underdeveloped niche in my opinion. Id like to see more rifle velocity handguns, although i doubt you will get anywhere near 2000 fps with it.

My father-in-law had a Ruger Blackhawk in 30 Carbine. It was fun to shoot - seemed to have much less recoil & muzzle flip than a .357 Mag.

found the pics I was looking for. rifle round in pistol = lots of unburnt powder = big fireball!

Here's mine, compared to a normal 5" 1911. As you can see it's not quite a 1911 design.

I had one for years. Regret selling it, but needed the money because life happened.

It was always one of my favorites! PM me if you need another magazine for it. I still have one laying around somewhere.

The chart at the bottom of this article claims 1972fps with 85gr out of a 7.5" Ruger -

(Which I also have...) -

http://hunting.about.com/od/guns/l/aastruger30bh.htm

I'm thinking the 1911 styled semi-auto should be more efficient with almost the same length barrel.....

No idea - But then again my grandfather didn't own a 9mm.

My plans for this sidearm are an OD frame / Black slide -

With my grandfathers WWII medals laser etched into one side -

And the pic of him holding his M1 on the grip.

But that scope is BUTT FUGLY -

I bet I get $300 for it on GunBroker -

Unless someone here wants it.....

I wouldn't mind finding either an Automag or a Ruger in .30 Carbine just to have a handgun in a matching caliber for my M1 Carbine. That would be a fun gun to shoot!

that's exactly why I picked mine up -- to take it out when I shoot the m1 carbine. makes for a nice pair!

I like the .30 carbine round. I used to think it would be great to have a handgun chambered in it. Then I found out about the huge noise and fireball, and the lost velocity from a short barrel... and my enthusiasm waned considerably.

Hope you enjoy yours though! Range report!!

Range report will have to wait awhile.

Just picked up my full rail 1911 -

Can't start my next DROS until Nov 22nd -

THEN wait until Dec 23rd to start the DROS on this one.

I guess I'll thank a liberal for all these asinine laws.....

Right, because clearly, buying more than one gun every 30 days means you are running guns to the Mexican Drug Cartels - oh wait - that's the ATF...

Exactly.

I can "maybe" agree with a cooling off period if you currently don't own a firearm -

But if you already have two safes full -

What the hell good does it do...?

I never shot an AMT Automag in 30 Carbine, but I did shoot one in 22mag. That thing had a real sharp crack when it went off.

Probably ALOT if you have the barrel, rod, etc also.

The same guy listed that slide separate from all the other upper parts.

He got $1,000+ total for both listings...

What's the trigger reach like on that bad boy (the .30)? The grips look huge frontstrap-to-backstrap!

Interesting firearm, but I'd rather have a 10mm longslide. Rifle round in a handgun is just not very practical.

Haha. Practical. You're funny.

...but kind of mean to point it out. I'm sure if he realized it wasn't a very practical gun he would have never bought it! Well... now the cat's out of the bag I guess. Buyer's remorse time.

Just my humble opinion. To each their own. Check out the guy's avatar and sig. He seems to like the unconventional.

Isn't it really a pistol round used in a carbine and now being used in a pistol?
Nice pickup.
I've also wanted a .30 Blackhawk.

love it...love it...love it
I shot one before too. The owner of it and I were trading notes on the two oddities at a GTG that day. I brought out my Iver Johnson Enforcer(see below pic). I have a big thing for modern historical handguns.

That's what I have. It is powerful enough to take game at close range. However, the 30 carbine is no slouch. With expanding bullets it can be a very good defensive round.

Hahahahah - No remorse here.

I actually passed on the same sidearm in .45ACP and waited for this one.

Seems I'm drawn to the "weird" caliber combos...
