Here is mine with friends...
Both ARs calguns "bear" lower (twins)
The dissy has a PSA upper. I kind of want to put a TRX style rail on it...

I ran a Delton barrel for a few hundred rounds...it worked just fine. (though admittedly, only a few hundred rounds)

I just got a barrel back from him. Took about a month.
Thats probably what I'm going to have to do. Or build a fake one with my 16".

I have a list of suppliers/manufacturers that stock and sell them on the first post.

JSE surplus currently has them in stock - as well as CMMG in both heavy and medium contour

I can't seem to find any free float 15" tubes that will accomodate the piston system on my LWRC which I am thinking of converting into a dissi. Any recommendations? I've emailed a couple of retailers and manufacturers about the Troy Industries and MI free float tubes and they've just said that those companies dont make one of sufficient length which will clear the gas piston. Meanwhile, I've been looking at these:

Samson Evo: http://www.samson-mfg.com/ar-15_html...lution_15.html

and

DD: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Danie.../dd%202008.htm
I would really rather not get the DD since I will be saving up for eons to get it.

I'd really appreciate if anyone has turned their piston gun into a dissipator and could recommend a good 15" hand guard or if anyone could give feedback on the two mentioned here. Thanks!

Well I am about 90% complete now. I took the Eotech and troy BUIS from my 14.5" BCM and converted that one into a KISS build by adding a LMT carry handle.

Remaining:
BGC (either YM Chrome or Spikes NB)
B.A.D. Ambi Safety

and with my KISS build

I just recieved a 15" samson evo free float rail to install on my 16" LWRC to make it a dissi and it looks great on the gun, but I have a couple of concerns. The trough that is cleared for the gas system seems to be rubbing up against the gas block and the barrel seems to be coming out low in the tube, not centered. Has anyone with an LW had the same problem? Can I correct it? Is it bad to keep the tube on the gun?

Sorry for all the novice questions, I haven't had much experience with hand guards and would really appreciate the advice. Thanks! Damn, dissipators look good!

if it's contacting the barrel system at any point, it's not going to be free floating, that may be what is causing the off-center barrel.

also, small tolerances may be causing the slight cant of the tube, which 15" down the line equals quite an off center mounting.

got any photos?

Not at the moment. I can't tell if the gas block is touching the tube. It looks like there might be some light contact, but the tube comes on and off readily which means that the binding, if any isn't bad enough to exert any strain on the barrel. The gun cycled fine when I took it to the range today and all, so no major issues.

I think that the cant is primarily due to the tolerances of the tube, and will just have to be something that I'll have to deal with. Will post pictures after my range day tomorrow.

Here's me and my dissi. The barrel cant ended up just being from how the heat sinks and the barrel nut match up. It appears that another person who mounted the evo rail on his 16" LW had the same issue. Gun cycles beautifully and once it was sighted in, it was pure bliss to shoot.

It is a Seekins Precision Ambi Lower. It is unique and that is one of the reasons I got it. I also like the Ambi bolt release function it has on it.

Much like everyone else who has read this thread, I now want a dissipator...

I have a spare 16" carbine upper that I'm not using at the moment, so I my intentions are to build a dissipator clone out of it.

Just wanted to list the parts I think I'll need, and see if anything is missing...

1) Low Profile Gas Block
2) Clamp on style A2 Front Sight

I plan on reusing the handguard cap, and purchasing some MOE riflelength handguards to throw on it. Does anyone see any issues with my build?

one of the ways I have seen people attach to the standard end caps on a dissy is to tap the whole normally used for the gas tube on the front post and use a small cap screw to hold the cap on there.

do that and you should be golden.

if you wanted to do it on the cheep and without having to buy and install a new gas block - just cut the old one down. No harm in it and I have seen it done a lot.

Another question, aside from tapping the front sight post's gas tube port, how can I keep the front sight post and handguard cap inline? (normally the gas tube does this)

not sure of any other way... usually there is a small landing on the barrel were the cap sits sandwiched against the gas block and the tube keeps it lined up. Without a gas tube and that landing, you really need something to keep it both flush with the block and properly lined up. maybe you could JB weld it if you're afraid of the tools to tap it - if you're worried about permanence or ruining an otherwise good gas block... well I dunno, they are like $10 so no big deal there

Latest shot of my 9mm:

They don't have a gas system (blowback), so no block issues. I really like the rifle-length MI handguard, which offers just enough attachment points for me. It locked up tight and is very comfortable.
My first tryout at Angeles ate up about 300 rounds of S&B 115grn ammo, with a few FTEs. Performance was far better with the Speer 124grn Lawman TMJs I had on hand, but I was using this upper on a rifle lower, so the spring was probably the factor. I'll have to test it out on my carbine lower.
The 2x Aimpoint is a little overkill on this, as shooting much beyond 100 yrds the groups aren't so great. Perhaps I'll swap in the Micro I have on my .223 carbine. Makes more sense to have the 2x on a longer-range rifle.
The extended distance between Magpul BUISs seems to help, but would probably make more difference if I was shooting past 100 yrds.
Upper Parts: Colt receiver, CMMG barrel and ramped bolt/carrier, Spike's 9mm brake, MI SS-Series handguard (with cap), Magpul Gen II BUISs.

took the dissipator out for an intense weekend of training in Nevada recently. On a single objective we: moved 7 miles, climbed 2500ft off trail, successfully evaded a roving patrol, had 2 *simulated* enemy engagements (with live fire, and one of which we chased up a mountain) discovered a *simulated* enemy cache, spoke with *simulated* locals that gave us further information to the *simulated* whereabouts of the *simulated* enemy. we then successfully navigated back to camp with a map and compass!

as expected (after over I lost count of how many rounds) my rifle performed flawlessly. I got to test out some new gear (tactical tailor fight light removable operator assault pack, EMDOM gunslinger, NOVATAC spl. This is the first time I carried my rifle over that much ground and MAN that HBAR barrel sure gets heavy while trying to scale a 7000ft peak of lava rock! almost reminded me of 0331 days.

Also, there was a super moon that weekend. As we crested one of the lower peaks we encountered that day, we realized that we were actually standing ABOVE the moon. it was cool. so we got an iphone photo! I really wish I would have carried my camera gear but my assault pack was full of ammo, MREs, and other mission essential gear.

Got my Addax/BHW dissy barrel in the mail today! Looks great, and MUCH lighter than my DPMS barrel. For $199 (I bought early and got it for $190 ), it's a great deal. I need to get a scale that'll read light weights; ghetto measuring it on my bathroom scale (take my weight, take my weight with barrel, find difference) it's about equal to or a little lighter than my WOA SDM-R barrel (20" with the 12 deep flutes; 2lbs, 9oz).

Specs on the bbl:

I'm waiting for funds and parts to come in so I can complete this thing, but I temporarily cannibalized some parts from my SDM-R so I can test it out this weekend. I'll post pics tomorrow when I get the stock on it.

Parts List:
  • Spikes Lower, DPMS Upper
  • VLTOR Gunfighter CH, LMT M16 Bolt Carrier Group
  • Addax/BHW 16" Rifle Gassed Dissy bbl (1/8, SS)
  • VLTOR A5 Stock kit in FDE (Pinned for featureless; should arrive tomorrow)
  • PRI Gas Block (Kies Adjustable Gas Block should arrive next week)
  • YHM Diamond muzzle brake (Rainier Extreme Mini Comp to be ordered later)
  • YHM Diamond rail (to be replaced with Troy 13" FDE Battlerail Bravo next week)
  • TA11F ACOG (to be replaced with Vortex SPARC shortly)
  • Solar Tactical grip fin, KAC knockoff handstop
  • Standard LPK (Geissele SSA to be ordered)

...and then I'll either buy one of those DIY duracoat kits, or find someone who can help me do the upper and lower receivers for cheap.
