Default Information direct from magpul, on counterfeit mbus sights.

I spoke with a very helpful gentleman at magpul about spotting fake sights vs real magpul products.
Here are some clues that can help you not get ripped off.

1. The mount screw. Magpul used a Allen head that said magpul around the edge in the gen 1 for only a short time, and switched to a slotted head screw.if it has a Allen , unless it says magpul it's fake. You can also see the poor mating of the lock on the side here too.

2. Magpul sights have always been packaged separately , they have never used one box for both sights. If both come in one box, fake.
3. flash / seam on front hinge= fake

4. Magpul PTS have always said PTS on the hinge. And are almost the same price as real. No PTS logo = Fake

I hope this will cut down on confusion and make it easier to shop. Cheers guys.

I have a set of the real ones and the fake ones.

On mine, the real ones use a flat head screw and the fake ones an allen head screw. The rear sight that allows you to flip down the front piece to open up the aperture, the real one is stiff and holds in place. The fake one is loose and when you release the sight and it flips up, the aperture flip-down falls forward. The Magpul logo on the real one looks sharper with better edges in the logo. The PTS version has a more rounded looking logo.

However, both perform the same and neither is better nor worse when using them at the range on either my .223 AR or my 15-22.

Perhaps change the thread title, it implies you got a fake one from magpul.

Thanks for going out and getting the info and taking the time to post it, hopefully it'll help at least a few people not get ripped off.

$32-ish for the front sight. $53-ish for the rear sight.... approx $85 total for the real MBUS sights.

$15-$19 with free shipping for both front & rear PTS sights.

I have both sets since I wanted to test somethings out. If you're using them as iron sights, then they both work the same. But the quality between the two is pretty obvious once you start working with them.

It's not $70 difference in quality IMO, but still a difference in quality.

Magpul mbus and Magpul PTS are basically identical , cept the PTS are not made of the hard resin like the actual battlesight . It's made of some hefty polymer tho.And the PTS sights say PTS right on them.

Airsoft Replicas are 15 shipped and are not PTS.

I know you said you got it from midway, but that mount screw combined with the seam on the hinge, and the flash sticking off, make that look suspect. Maybe that's the first run, before the magpul was etched into them. Has alot of icky for a real one tho.

I think it may need to be brought up that the Magpul PTS products are legitimate Magpul product meant for the PTS and Airsoft industries licensed or produced by Magpul.

They should not be confused with actual counterfeiting coming out of China

What is sad is there are many major Airsoft dealers, distributors, and even manufacturers putting their hands in the counterfeiting market of a variety of products. Not just Magpul items.

Thanks, that's the whole point of the thread and it's been mentioned twice that
Magpul PTS sights are made by magpul and are NOT the same as china counterfeits. REAL Magpul PTS sights say PTS in big letters on the front hinge.

Just to add some more information to the thread, let me show you what I recieved today from Brownells, a very reputable dealer.

I ordered the rear MBUS sight, and it did not come in a box at all:

Here is the interior packaging, with instructions, warnings etc:

and now for the rear mbus itself, no allen head, uses a slotted screw, and no rough machining marks on the plastic itself:

Hmmmm that is a v2 in new packaging.

Most magpul small parts come the those packages now. Known.
The issue is the boxed sets (CF),and the v1 sights. The differences in them, the actual PTS , counterfeits and their packaging .But Even here they are separate.

Thanks you for the pics and enjoy your new sights man
