I like the brigade quartermasters house brand with their "special" cloth. They cost a little bit more, but I think they wear well.

The 5.11's are what my LE unit uses and I am very happy with them. I often have to get down and dirty in them and they always clean up well and resist tearing. They also are very comfortable.

Good to know! They are not expensive and I've heard some great things about them. |

Get someone you know with a military Id to buy some for you at the clothing and sales at the post/base near you. Can't beat the price, and hey, they are IR resistant!

BDUs sold at AAFES / MCX / NEX aren't that cheap, are they? I'll ask my dad to do a quick price check tomorrow when he's at work (he works at the March AAFES), but I'm pretty sure they're about as much as commercial stuff.

What is the main difference between the three different 5.11 TDU fabric blends? The cotton canvas and nylon canvas differ by $10, but the top model with I can't remember which blends jumps by $30...

I have two pairs of the 100% cotton canvas pants in black and they faded extremely fast.
http://www.lapolicegear.com/51174251.html The 100% nylon canvas is the way to go. They are more confortable. The hold their color very well and the breathablility of the material is great on warmer days. The fabric also dries faster than cotton. Worth the $10 extra. http://www.lapolicegear.com/5tanypa.html Both BDU designs are identical; only the fabric differs. The TDU's are of a different design than the BDU's. The cargo pockets are bulkier. Rear pockets are different. I bought a pair to check them out but have not yet worn. http://www.lapolicegear.com/5tatduporipa.html Last edited by code33; 02-14-2007 at 11:22 PM.. |

At AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Service) the hot weather BDU pants are $29.60 and the cold weather BDU pants are $34.00. I am stationed at Travis and would be willing to help out. They also carry the new ACUs but I don't know how much for those.

+1 on fading. Blue and black faded fast for me. Green lasted a little longer and kharki ones are still good.
