Default Time to show off my first assembled AR!

Hey all,

Pretty much finished with putting my first AR together. It took me about 6 months to buy all the parts, and about 3 hours to put it together! I bought an AR out of the marketplace here in January, and wanted to build my own right away. Already planning my next one too.... BRD anyone?

The only problems I had assembling were launching a detent pin a few times, and also installing the gas tube and block on the barrel before sliding the barrel nut on the barrel....

I still need to get a sling set up on it, and I'm saving for some nice glass. Right now I'm set on the Nikon M223 2-8x. I'm contemplating whether or not I will put BUIS on this rifle, thoughts?

Would like to give a big thanks to the Calguns community, love this place!

Parts: (Would you believe me if I said this started out as a "budget" build? haha)
-Aero Precision Lower w/ RRA match LPK and Geissele SSA trigger
-Magpul UBR in FDE
-Magpul MOE grip in FDE
-YHM upper
-18" SS White Oak SPR barrel (mid)
-YHM lo-pro gas block
-Troy VTAC 11" in FDE
-Young Manufacturing NM Chrome BCG
-PWS FSC556 muzzle brake
-Burris PEPR scope mount w/ a Primary Arms 3-9x scope (saving for glass)
-Harris 9-13" Notched leg, swivel bipod w/ Alpha Bravo swivel lock
-American Defense QD bipod mount

Nice build, congrats. Some BUIS would finish the rifle off nicely.

Looking good. I like the look of the barrel especially, very metal. That rifle would also look good with the Magpul PRS stock. What caliber is the upper and which mag lock are you using?

Thanks guys! You wouldn't believe how bad I'm itching to shoot it! My sister took the pictures, she does photography as a hobby/extra play money.

Thanks Mark. It's 5.56, and using a Raddlock. I will be learning how to use a scope on this one, and will get in touch when I have enough pennies saved up for something nicer

Excellent build, what is the twist ratio for the barrel? 1:9?

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I definitely went a little overboard, but how could you not ? Good thing the wife doesn't know about this one yet....

It's 1:7 with .223 Wylde chamber and M4 feed ramps. Looking to shoot the heavier rounds. I'm not a reloader, but I figured the factory match ammo will shoot much better than any 55 or 62 gr. ammo. But then again, I'm sure that surplus ammo would still be more accurate than I could be! Looking to learn how to shoot longer distances/use a scope with this rifle.

BUIS are backups. For that reason I like the Magpul Mbus. Cheap, lightweight and good enough.

On the other hand, every time you take off the scope to shoot the irons you are going to have to zero it again once you put it back on.

My philosophy (which I haven managed to follow yet) is choose your BUIS once, zero it, fold it down then zero your scope and avoid taking it off unless you have a fancy return to zero scope mount.

By the way, were there any problems installing the Geissele SSA trigger?

That's a nice high end piece of weaponry. The FDE and black color scheme goes together like peanut butter and jelly. Shoot it well, and shoot it often my friend..

Thank you everyone for the kind words!

I finally took her out to the desert last weekend, but unfortunately didn't have time to properly zero it. I did get to put about 30 rounds through it, and it functioned flawlessly! Quite a good feeling after firing the first few shots, knowing I assembled the upper and lower myself! I fired some PMC Bronze 55gr and some PMC XTAC 62 gr.

Going back down to the desert in two weeks, should have a better opportunity to spend more zeroing her in.
