Default Contact Governor NOW re: SB819 (DROS fees)

SB 819 (Redirection of Dealer Record of Sales Fee (DROS)) has gone to the Governor's desk for signature. Please contact Governor Brown's office immediately requesting that he veto this bill.

Click to email the Governor

Note that DROS fees were originally intended to off-set the cost of background checks to make sure that prohibited person do not acquire firearms. The use of these fees for other purposes effectively make them an illegal tax. Therefore, this bill will result in additional costs for the State because they are going to have to fight the resulting lawsuits (and probably lose).

From a CRPA email sent out today:

Quote:
Urgent! It's Time to Call and Write the Governor on SB 819!

SB 819 passed out of the Assembly and onto the governor's desk. This is our last chance to defeat SB 819! Please call, write, and/or email the governor and urge a VETO on SB 819. Contact information for the governor's office is included below.

SB 819 - Redirection of Dealer Record of Sales Fee (DROS)

CRPA Position: Oppose

URGE THE GOVERNOR TO VETO SB 819
SB 819 would allow the state Department of Justice (DOJ) to raid the DROS and take "excess" money to pay for local enforcement of laws related to firearms possession. The primary purpose of the DROS fee paid by every firearms purchaser is to fund the purchaser background checks performed by the Department of Justice. DROS fund fees are a fee for service and should be used for their intended purpose: background checks. The concern is that the DROS fund will be depleted and soon require an increased DROS fee for all firearms purchasers.

CRPA and NRA are working hard to defeat SB 819 from every angle. In addition to lobbying efforts, a law suit has also been filed by CRPA and NRA to block the illegal use of DROS fees as proposed by SB 819.

We need your help defeat SB 819 now. Use the collective power of your CRPA membership and take action now. Make your voice heard at the state capitol! Don't let anti-gun legislation disassemble your firearms rights piece by piece!

Please veto sb819, dros fees are to only be used for their intended purpose. NOT for law enforcement.

Done, but this thread needs to be everywhere so that other Calgunners can get involved en masse in a timely response! 4 emails to the Governor is not going to sway him!

(I posted a thread in the rifle section to get the word out...link)

Done. But, .... am I the only one here who gets all the urgent emails to contact my representative (or Governor) and I know in my heart that it makes absolutely no difference? I know how my representative will vote regardless of how many letters I send. Depressing.

No, you are not the only one. But if we act as a group our power goes from a single voter whose power may not make much of a difference to a mass of folks who can "sway" our elected officials. The key is to be organized as a unit and not as an individual. That's why it's so important to do this when called upon. I can assure you that a politician will change his/her mind if enough constituents complaint about an issue. The worst thing we can do is to stay silent.

Done! I have read on this board where some believe Jerry is Pro Gun, so we'll soon find out, but I don't think they are going to turn down a new revenue source.

Dear Governor Brown

VETO

SB-819

It is an illegal tax and will cost the state dearly
Due to litigation the state will ultimately lose.

Whoa whoa whoa, whats the all the distress about? Everyone just RELAX!!! Don't you all know we elected a pro-gun governor in Jerry Brown? Remember? There are countless Brown supporters on this website, many of them "big wigs" 'round these parts, who assured us that we have nothing to fear in Brown when it comes to 2A issues. So just relax, take a deep breath, and calm down. Ol' Jerry wouldn't dissappoint us. After all, thats why so many pro-gunners voted for the guy. So no need for all the fuss, and no need to send e-mails urging him not to sign this piece of crap. Right?

Honestly I don't think Jerry Brown will Veto this. I mean it raises revenues ( which the dems love ) and it does it on the back of gun owners and makes t harder for them to get them. It's a win-win for them. He could easily pass this off as him being a "deficit hawk" or some BS like that. And saying that this measure would not burden the right and that it would actually be good for law abiding gun owners in the state because it would fund the guys that put the illegal gun owners in jail or something like that. I see this passing.

It may pass or not, but the point is to let them know that we don't approve of it. We better start getting LOUD 'cause more crap is coming from Sacramento!

What happens if they drain the surplus in the account and then the fees get owned in the current court case?
Then there won't be money left to keep the DROS system supporting itself.

Is that good or bad? Either way, email sent.
