Default Who makes the best 17HMR Revolver?

I have found a new fascination with .17 HMR rifles and would like to add a few .17 HMR revolvers to my collection. Is there many other choices besides a Taurus, which is the only one I am aware of?

I am also eyeballing the Alexander Arms 17 HMR AR Upper. I am going to wait until my friend gets his and see what type of issues he has. He should get his in the next couple of weeks.

You didn't specify single or double action so I will throw out the Ruger Single Six in .17HMR for your viewing pleasure - http://www.ruger.com/products/newMod...MR/models.html

Do they make a DA version of this? Any other good options out there?

Probably a more reliable round too. You know, rimfire can be finicky stuff, especially in semi auto mode. I am just hooked on the 17HMR and you can get ammo pretty much anywhere, for cheap!

It really depends on what you are shooting at. I used to think I wanted a semi auto in .17 Problem is the stuff is expensive and I piss through it pretty fast when out shooting prairie dogs, like 1000 - 1500 rounds in 3 days and thats with shooting another 500-1000 rnds of .223. Point being I would burn through even more if I did not have the bolt action and a 4 rnd mag slowing me down. I vote for a good bolt action if you are doing high volume shooting.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of dead varmints!!! I go squirrel hunting with the same idea but usually end up only shooting a few hundred rounds at most. Quality shots over quantity

I know I hit what I am aiming at with the 17HMR. OK, truth be told I can barely hit the broad side of a barn but my 15 year old son can hit what he aims at

You see, the way I look at it is you are getting better than match .22LR ammo for about the same price but with much better ballistics! You can't go wrong with this ammo and I think it is moderately priced too.

I had a Smith in 17. Didn't shoot it much so put it up for sale.

BANG! Had a fellow sign up to CGN just to buy it that day. He either really wanted one or I didn't ask for enough money.

Anybody want a 17 RoughRider?

I'm not certain, but IIRC, S&W makes a .17 HMR DA wheel gun...model 647 a 'varmint' gun...$1200.00

I have been around a S&W 647 17 HMR.It is double action, with a 8-3/8" barrel.Off a rest I can hit 5" balloons 4 out of 5 at 200 yds.It was never a Cal list gun. They were made I believe only 2 years.Other than not being a Cal gun, they fetch around a grand or more new unfired.Close to that used.I have been around the Taurus and it is not even close to what the Smith is.Believe it or not the lucky fool bought 2 of them, and 3 648s in 6" 22 mag, and 2 4" 617s at a cost of $319 each that a gun store in another state was closing out 3 years ago.I own several 17 HMRs and HM2s and love them.

Ouch! A bit too pricey for my taste. This is all the more reason to get a $400-$500 Taurus

Thanks for the insight folks!

Just curious, what did you let it go for?
