Can't believe we're really going to have to shoot in upper 70s / low 80s temperature.

I guess I'll have to suck it up and see everyone there. Hope there will be other shooters.

I think they re-thought their assement. Now it's calling for 8 to 15 mph winds, that's nothing.
See you all on the range

Scores are finished, Dennis should get them up on the website today.
Sorry they are so late, I will do better next year. (yeah right)

Don't forget about our All Shotgun match next weekend,

150 bird
10 Slugs
10 Buck

Our cook should be there and looking ahead the weather looks great 68-70 degrees.

Default New to 3 gun

I'm looking to enter my first 3 gun match and would like to compete the whole season. Is there a list somewhere with CA matches that I could get? Also, do I need to shoot a qualifier first or can I just show up to a match?
Thanks

Someone was kind enough to start this thread:
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=849404

There is no qualifier for 3-gun so just be safe and have fun. Are you shooting USPSA/IDPA/Action Pistol yet? You really need to do that first to learn range commands and safety protocol.

Januuary 17th

It's time again for Multi-Gun

Weather looks good, they are calling for high 70's and lite wind. Should be a great weekend.

Normal house cleaning, no armor pierceing, steel core or WMD's fire danger is high.

Bring plenty of fluids, there is nothing for miles around.

All 6 flash targets are back up and in play. No slugs in the match this month, just pistol, rifle, birdshot, and a few buck for a spinner if you want to.

The stages are posted below and on the website;

x3multigun.com

Please get there early and get squaded up so we can get started on time and to assure that you get to shoot with the freinds that you want to. I will not over load a squad.

See you Sunday.

P.S. I want to thank Max and Phil for their help in getting the flashers back up. I couldn't have done it with out them.

Scores are finished, you should be able to get them on the website in a couple of hours.

x3multigun.com

Thanks for coming out. If you didn't make it out you missed a great match.

See you all next month.

February 16th,

75 degrees and no wind, it won't get any better than this. The stages are done you can see them below or on the website:
x3multigun.com

No slugs this month just Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun. Normal round count.

please get there early and get signed up. As you know I will limit the squads so as not to have a back up.

Leave your steel core, tracers, and incendariey devices at home. We haven't had rain in a couple of years and everything is pretty dry.

You need to bring anything and everything you want and need, there are no facilities out there other than porta potties. You can always take it home with you, but if you don't have it you will be sorry.

See you all on Sunday.

Great match yesterday, Sam! Good stage-design with nothing crazy and nice quick resets! And just the right amount of people, too. We (Bravo Squad) experienced zero delays and never had anyone coming up behind us waiting for us to finish shooting a stage.

I don't get up there as often as I'd like, but when I do, I always have fun. Thanks again for putting on a great match!!

^^^Ditto the above. Nice to of been able to squad up with you Sam (aside from all your s*%t talking) you definitely saved me on a couple of "did not engage" penalties.

Cya'll next month!

Ken

Ps - I'll be bringing some WD40 for the flipper that was on stage 3!

That's good stuff there that I don't have in the arsenal SuperSet! I was lame and couldn't flip the flipper on the all pistol stage (stage 3). The Texas star was no problemo, but due my own personal level of lameness, I couldn't flip the flipper (9mm 115 and 124gr).

Shhhh - Sneaking over the fence tonight to grease/wd40 the bearings

Oh yeah, that's right, S3 was the choice stage! If I had to do it all over again, I would have gone with pistol since the fastest time on our squad was pistol.
If you're an X3 member, go up there during non-match days and just practice on that spinner until you can do it. That's all it takes!

Stage 3 was all pistol. Stage 2 was the shotgun -or- pistol stage. I elected shotgun that stage because the match was relatively shotgun light this month and I don't get much opportunity to work my Benelli these days.

Should have tried some buckshot on that spinner. I struggled with it using 7.5 birdshot through a full choke, even though I was hitting it square.

Stage 3, I had low time for the nine or ten of us on Bravo Squad (I'm told by my buddy), which is a rarity for me. Fun stage!!!

Stage 4 Jungle Run was probably the next most fun stage. The rifle spinner had always been a problem for me, but I think the shortened-up yardage made my 55gr bullets much more effective and I flipped it no sweat in about a dozen shots. I boogered my scope setting between the wedge and the last shooting position (left it on 6x) and had about a three-second delay trying to find the close-in IPSC targets. Duh. Canted it 45-degrees and started to point-shoot instead. I need some BUIS.

Stage 5 shredder went well, despite me being a poor-shot with a rifle off-hand. Good addition of that requirement, by the way. I took three shots at the first steel, then went one for one on the other two, surprisingly.

Stage six's long-yardage are always either really good or really bad for me. I managed to tag four of six, but emptied a 30-rounder to do it. Meh.

Fun match!!

Nice! Thank you for confirming the level of my lameness Definitely been noodling the idea of getting a X3 membership. I've flipped the flipper w a pistol before, but currently more the exception than the rule. I'm no speed demon since my accuracy would suffer badly, but the below is my own AAR from the match.

Personal highlight:
1. No equipment or ammo issues - keeping the bar very low
2. Limited the amount of self-induced mental errors. For example, avoided (a) starting the stage w the wrong scope setting, (b) scope cap left on and (c) only had one failure to engage penalty - walked right pass a steel target on Stage 2 (pistol/shotgun option). Worse part, raw score was around 40 seconds-ish (then add the penalty in).
3. Flipped 2/3 flippers

Lowlight:
1. Failed to flip the flipper on Stage 3 (pistol)
2. Sucked painful arse on Stage 6 - distance shooting. If you can't scratch a decent score on stage 6, that's really going to keep you to the bottom third/half of the field.

These would be the two things I would work on (amongst many other things) first.

That's how I ended up shooting 5 as well. Four shots to hit the left steel and one each for the center and right steel, and then off to the races with the remaining paper.

First time I've seen anyone do a match AAR so you get +meticulous points from me! You are right. 3Gun is a sport about minimizing mistakes. The penalties are too severe to make up with less time.
The good news is that everything you mentioned can be fixed by some additional practice and those targets are available to X3 members. It's a cheap membership, just do it!

Yes that pistol spinner on 3 got me frustrated, didn't seem like it wanted to move. I made the mistake of staying on it too long and I ran out of ammo for the last 4 targets. The worst thing about it was Sat night, I was thinking to myself, spinner and star...should I bring one more mag...and though..nah I've spun the spinner plenty of times, won't be a problem. It was a problem.

Just finished the scores, what a fun match.

Dennis should have them on the website in a little bit. Sorry for the delay, I still have a day job.

I thought I finished better than I did, but, Oh Well I guess I'm getting older and the young guys are just getting better.

Don't forget about our Pistol match this Saturday and the All Shotgun match next month.

See you all at the range.

I haven't even finished typeing this post and Dennis has the scores up.

x3multigun.com

Way to go Dennis!

Finishing in the top 50% (21 out of 45 in TacOptics and 24 out of 58 overall) is kind of a big deal for me when it comes to 3-gun. So I guess I had a pretty fair match last Sunday!

Thanks again, everyone.

Sounds like someone marked the wrong column. Was that the no shoot clay stage? If yes, then I think that was 3 5s penalties.

I know I hit one no shoot (5sec pen) but 3 15 sec penalties is catastrophic for a score!

It appeared to me that for the most part people did score the flashers correctly. However the scoring program dosen't offer me a 20 second penalty so I have to be creative and use the 10 second penaltys. So for right now if you see a bunch of 10 or 15 second penalties that's why. As for your score Chris I only mark down what is on the score sheet sorry

March 16th

Weather looks great, mid to hi 80's. I have the stages almost finished, a lot of two gun stages, you will need about 10 buckshot and about 10 slugs.

Good quality shooting, swingers, stars, spinners, flying birds, knock over stuff the usual mayhem

Bring plenty of water and something to snack on, it is a dry range with nothing around for miles to purchase food and drinks.

Please be on time or early for sign ups, as the weather starts to warm up and the season gets under way we will see an influx of shooters.

I will post the stages as soon as I have them finished.

The stages are posted below and should be on the website later today.

These are some of the best stages I have written in a while, you should really try to make it out to this match.

On another note, hopefully within the next couple of weeks I will have rifle and pistol ammo. For sale at the range, if you are interested please send me an e-mail a samhouston@x3multigun.com

9mm 124gr FMJ @ $260/k
.223 55gr FMJ @ $360/k

See you all on Sunday

One more thing, don't forget our "All Shotgun" match on the last Sunday of the month, March 30th

Thanks,
