Wes, Do you find the most traction with police, sheriff, SWAT, military, or other? I'm starting to work on the local police first for some other matters and will bring up the silencers soon.

I haven't had any traction so far. The local PD wanted some, but have yet to buy. I bid on a contract with BPD, but lost. So far all I do is demo them.

And with that I just ordered some demo units from YHM. Their demo prices are awesome!!!

I ordered their new TI thread on 5.56mm, 9mm XL for my AR15, and Cobra M2 for 9mm and .40.

If a Bullet Button ban passes, I am going to register my Glock 24 as an AW and go threaded barrel. If not, I will just make a fixed magazine device. Now I just have to see if Lone Wolf will send me the barrels.

It really makes me wonder if you just had a decent stock of suppressors, if they wouldn't sell back out of state. The YHM can prices aren't bad at about a 40% margin. I am thinking about it. It wouldn't be a bad idea to start selling some of this so I can pay for the SOT every year.

Huntertown seems as good as any other and at great prices. I have some on order. I have a LW threaded barrel, not installed yet. But I have a Glock fixed magazine device already made for SSE for when they arrive.

I would certainly avoid storing it off your license location. However, my house is on the way to the range and I don't always go right back to the shop. And I am being honest. I do not store them at the house, but they might be there for a day or two as I head back and forth. If it is staying at your house, the government could easily argue that a transfer has occurred.

Definitely an advantage of being a home based FFL. The disadvantage being you are always at work!

I just signed a lease on a commercial space near home. Thought about getting a second FFL there but it would take too long and I have more business. But I don't think there's a problem leaving the silencers locked in the car once in a while for demo's.

First year being an SOT and I have a question;

If you let your SOT go, but keep your FFL do you have to sell the items or transfer them to another SOT, or is it like the rest of the country were if its in your name its yours for life?

Thanks,
Otto

Does the SOT help a 03 FFL holder at all? C&R AOWs?

Unfortunately no. Only 01 and 07 FFLs can pay the SOT.

The items on your SOT are not yours. They are the inventory of the gun shop. As soon as you no longer have your SOT, then you no longer get to keep those items unless you transfer them to your personal collection. Only FFLs with SOTs can possess silencers in California.

And Lone Wolf will send threaded barrels to CA no problem. They had my Glock 24 barrels in stock and have already been shipped. I got a threaded .40 and a threaded .40 to 9mm conversion!

Now I just need to take home some Glock 17 10 rounders and someday find some 17 rounders.

Wes is right. Silencers are OK in the business for an SOT payer. Once you are not an SOT payer, it would be a felony to possess. If you had an AOW, you could transfer that to yourself or your trust but I'm sure that takes many months.
As far as I can interpret the laws, a threaded barrel is illegal in a handgun unless it has a fixed magazine. It doesn't seem to be illegal to possess the threaded barrel outside the handgun.

That is 100% correct. Hopefully none of this assault weapons business passes and I can just put a fixed magazine device on my Glock 24 frame and use my suppressor with 10 round magazines (and if I want to use my 24 with the standard barrel, it will fit on my G35 or the wifes G22 frame or my spare G17 frame I have a Tactical Solutions TSG22 kit on). However, if it passes, I am registering and going to have a wonderful time.

These came in today. For $75 each, I couldn't resist some hillbilly tech! One for AK, one for .22LR. No worries about baffle strikes on the AK and the front sights are tall enough to be usable.

I am going to bring some of my toys down to Island View on April 6 for Jacob to try out during their customer apprecaition day. They are donating their range fees to the Calguns Foundation so I am going to go hang out and then show off some of my demo cans. I am not planning on having everyone shoot, just kind of show Jacob what he needs to sell. So if the rest of you SOTs want to show up, that would be fun.

OK questions time!

I specialize in 6.8 AR15s built for hunting and I travel often out of state to work with clients. States where it is legal to hunt with suppressor's. If I get my SOT here in CA, can I take them out of state to demo (I think this was already addressed and the response was yes) and sell suppressors to clients out of state?

Yes. Any sales to your clients would be sent to a dealer in their NFA friendly state on a form 3, then transferred to them on a form 4.

I believe there is no restriction on travel with the silencers as a dealer as long as they are treated like any other firearm.

There is also nothing in the California DFG code about hunting with silencers in CA. I do market research on the effectiveness of suppressed weapons on animals for sales to animal control agencies run by police departments in my area all the time.

So far a suppressed 6.5 Grendel is a great tool for dispatching coyotes. Suppressed Savage Mark II .22 LRs work great on squirrels and rabbits.

So far a suppressed 6.5 Grendel is a great tool for dispatching coyotes. Suppressed Savage Mark II .22 LRs work great on squirrels and rabbits.
You know what, I didn't even look into this because up until this thread I "knew" (meaning in my head) suppressors were illegal in CA so therefore you cant hunt with them. However you are very right unless specifically addressed in the regs it isn't an issue. So a SOT legally possessing a suppressor could use one however how would you justify it as a demo for sales as isn't that the only reason we technically can possess and use it?

Researching to see which one works better so you can make more informed sales.
