Default AR10-Scope, Recommendations?

Wassup guys, was wondering if you can recommend a scope for my AR10. My budget is $450~650 scope only, I want to at least see 100yrds clearly as if I was 2-3 feet in front of the target. Scope doesn't really have to be a name brand but don't want a piece of junk. Sorry for any wording/lingo/phrases as you can see I'm not familiar with scopes. Pictures, links, and maybe your setup on your AR10 would help. Thanks in advance!

I threw a Bushnell Elite 3600 10x on mine it was CHEAP at around $200 and the glass is SUPER clear especially for the price. I'm using this for now and it works WELL at 100yrds I've taken it to 300 twice and its still pretty darn good.

I have one of these on a target AR10 and love it. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=499386
I also had to use one of these bases to get the positioning I wanted. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=116249

For the most scope for your money, look into the swfa line. They typically compete with scopes 50% above their price point.
http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-Scopes-C1719.aspx
Nikon and Bushnell are also very good options too.

I second the SWFA SS optics.

I have a 3X9 on my AR-10 and love it. (So does everyone else that shoots it)
It's no Nightforce, but it's solid, great glass for the price, and holds a zero no problem.

After a lot of research and advice from SWFA owners here on Calguns I bought it and have had no problems and no regrets about the purchase.

ok well all those suggestions really don't take into account what he wants, not trying to be a dick just stating what he said. He said he wants 100yards to look like he's 2-3ft from the target.

So, we should be looking for a scope with a power of 30 to 50.

Since, I don't have a personal exp with a scope that powerful I'm gonna step aside and hope someone suggests a scope that he wants.

Scopes with that high of madnification that you can actually see through start at about 2K and go up from there.

Which would then require an optic with decent parallax adjustment, which would take him well above the $500 price.
Most of the low end/high magnification scopes that advertise "parallax adjustment" still have a good margin of parallax error.

That's been my experience at least (on friends cheap optics), maybe someone can recommend a good priced one that works as stated.

doesn't parallax only matter though if you aren't consistent with your eye placement behind the scope?

Exactly, so on the super cheapo scopes with massive magnification just being a hair off on your cheek weld/eye placement, which isn't out of the realm of possibility, can bump your point of aim off.

An example here is going from a bench zero with consistant cheek weld and then shooting prone. Body mechanics dictate a slight change and so now you have a problem.

i see what you are saying now, and how it could cause a problem if not always just shooting from a bench(same position)

nother question for the OP...do you want mil/mil, mil/moa, moa/moa? or do you not care and will just get used to what you are using

The 16X Nikon fits your description. Great glass, lifetime warranty, not heavy.
Plenty of magification for 100/200 yard shooting.

Little above your budget but the Burris XTR 7.62 is a great scope.

Good call, that's what came to my mind when I saw the budget. Also check out the Vortex Viper 4 - 16X 50. Supposed to be really nice. Runs around the same price as the Monarch.

I have the Nikon Monarch 4-16x42 side focus mildot on my R-25. If I remember correctly it was in your range on-line.

Or:

http://www.natchezss.com/Optics.cfm?...Target%20Knobs

never used them, but just using Natchezz scope finder these show up in teh price range. May find them elsewhere cheaper.

but at 100 yards, target shooting, he should be able to dial in for the distance and leave it. If it doesn't have SF/AO, most scopes are just set for 100 yard parallax. But then like other's - never played with anything into that power range. Think the unless it was a bolted down benchrest rifle the magnification of every small vibration would drive me totally nuts, its bad enough at 16x!!

Bushnell 3200 elite tactical 5-15x and still have some money left over.

For the price you cant beat it. As solid as $600 scopes IMO and clear but for a great price. I have one on my 700 and have taken it out to 850 yards so far. Great scope for the price. It was my temp scope until I could get a NF but its doing such a good job im just going to keep it on there.

Ive used SWFA and the $400 leupolds and they dont match up to the bushnell. The higher end ones are a little better than it but again its an extra $200 to 300 more for that little bit better.

Check out the Bushnell Elite tac series and youll be impressed. A lot of people go nikon and leupold because their names.. I looked through all and went with the bushnell and am glad I did. I cant talk for the other bushnell scopes but the elite tac 5-15 is exceptional.

6.5-20 vortex viper?

At that price range I'd probably get the 3-9 SSniper with the new style reticle.

any word from the OP if we've hit the nail on the proverbial head? If not what more might you be looking for in a scope?

First-off I would like to say thank you to all the members that hooked it up with feedback and recommendations. You guys really broke it down and couldn't ask for more! I am going scope shopping today and hopefully have enough time to try it out in the range. I'll keep you guys posted on my pick, range report and pictures by tonight(if time allows)

Recommendations:
Nikon Monarch 4-16 x 42
Bushnell Elite 3600 10x
SWFA-SS-Scopes line
Leupold Mark AR Rifle Scope 4-12x 40mm
Osprey Tactical 10-40x50mm Riflescope
Burris XTR 7.62
Leatherwood 7-30x50
Bushnell 3200 elite tactical 5-15x

During this post I had the chance to stop by BIG-5 before they closed to "scope out", there weekly sales and ran into there Barska line mainly this one:
http://www.barska.com/Swat_Rifle_Sco...CAL_SCOPE.html

Because I'm new to this and can't compare it so another brand, I have to say I was pretty impressed. I know its a Braska aint knocking it just saying. Any thoughts or feedback on the Braska? I can only imagine what you guys recommend be a lot better?

And for the Leupold Mark AR they also have higher magnification choices in your price range. This will be a scope that you can use for a lifetime.

Can't speak to there scopes, but the binocs are crap. looked great in the store, useless in the field. I bought two pair for sporting events and some field work. They are both now toys for my kids. About the same optic quality as the toy ones, and they do hold up better than the toy kiddo binocs.

I am going scope shopping today and hopefully have enough time to try it out in the range. I'll keep you guys posted on my pick, range report and pictures by tonight(if time allows)

Recommendations:
Nikon Monarch 4-16 x 42
Bushnell Elite 3600 10x
SWFA-SS-Scopes line
Leupold Mark AR Rifle Scope 4-12x 40mm
Osprey Tactical 10-40x50mm Riflescope
Burris XTR 7.62
Leatherwood 7-30x50
Bushnell 3200 elite tactical 5-15x

During this post I had the chance to stop by BIG-5 before they closed to "scope out", there weekly sales and ran into there Barska line mainly this one:
http://www.barska.com/Swat_Rifle_Sco...CAL_SCOPE.html

Because I'm new to this and can't compare it so another brand, I have to say I was pretty impressed. I know its a Braska aint knocking it just saying. Any thoughts or feedback on the Braska? I can only imagine what you guys recommend be a lot better?

You'd be better off gluing two magnifying glasses into a dented soda can and drawing a crosshair on it with a marker vs buying BSA, NcStar or Barska...

Barska, Ncstar etc were designed for airsoft/airguns, not centerfire rifles so stay away!

sigh...i actually bought a barska tactical series scope a couple of years ago. 2.5-10, or something like that.. one of my most regrettable purchases.

however, just looked through one, at a store a few months ago, and i was not as disgusted. they have gotten better, it seems, or maybe I just got a lemon, but I still wouldnt buy again, just from that first experience.

They have gotten better... Hardly something I would put on a bolt gun or ar10 though.

I ran the bushnell tactical 3200 5-15x40 on my 600yrd bolt gun. It works great and is very clear for a $300 shipped scope.

I would reccomend a side paralax adjustable scope instead of objective because it is kind of annoying having to stretch your arm across a rifle to rotate the objective.

If you plan on spending a few hundred on opticsplanet, shoot me a pm. I have a 1 time use 10% coupon code I do not need. It expires in about 10 days.
