Question Model 65 H&R Reising 22 LR Trainer

I have had this old rifle for some time and I'm thinking about parting with it. I only gave $200 for it back in the '70's. I am trying to determine a fair price and I've seen everything from $385 to $800 for this particular model. It has no military markings (darn!) It still shoots great. It is marked as follows on the receiver:
MOD 65-H&R REISING 22 CAL
HARRINGTON AND RICHARDSON ARMS CO
WORCESTER, MASS, U.S.A.

Serial # 5xxx

The barrel is marked:
MFG BY HARRINGTON AND RICHARDSON ARMS CO
WORCESTER MASS U.S.A.

22 LONG RIFLE ONLY

Finish is probably 90%, it has the original Redfield M70 rear sight, 1 10 rd magazine, original butt plate and a few minor scratches on the stock. It also has what appears to be an original button snap cotton web sling attached to the swivels.

Anyone have an idea of value?
I will post some pictures this weekend.

Thanks in advance.

I believe that there is an H&R forum on www.rimfirecentral.com Somebody there might be able to help you with value. And I think there is one on www.graybeardoutdoors.com, too.

That gun was originally intended as a trainer for the Reising submachinegun, which was used by the USMC early in WWII and also by defense plant guards. After the war it served with many police departments for a while. The .22's value stems from its association with the Reising, and its use as a "secondary martial" training arm. You're right that yours is less valuable because it lacks the Ordnance Acceptance markings, but you still might be able to find an H&R collector, a collector of .22 trainers, or somebody who collects guns associated with police issue.

Good luck!

Avg price would be about $300, realistically. Just post it on gunbroker for the price you want, and it may very well sell eventually. A higher price may mean that it will sit on auction for awhile before any possible purchaser comes forward.
