^Awesome modifications. I always sort of wanted to get one of those cheap 870 expresses from turners and convert it into a tactical shotgun like that.

Hey guys, just finished a little wood project on my shotty. My wife doesn't appreciate it as much as I do so I wanted to post a pic and maybe get some nice feedback. But don't hesitate to tell me it was a waste of time.

I couldn't find the birds head in wood so I shapped my own from a full stock. I also like the look of the long foregrip; kinda makes the barrels look shorter. I refinished the wood but it was so smooth that I felt it needed the grip tape. Originally I didn't plan on the tape but I think it looks alright. The birds head is very comfortable.

What to you think?

^^^Meh, I never liked how the bolt slides back and can jam your hand if you're shooting from the hip and the carrier weight, it's a lot of steel your have to move to rack the action. Historically speaking, the 1897 is awesome, especially configured like highpower has it, but as to function, the Rem. 870 and Mossy 500 are better designs IMO.

Spoken like someone that has never really shot a '97. I have owned a few over the last 40 years or so and have never had the bolt come in contact with my hand when hip shooting and, even though it is a bit disconcerting, it really doesn't come close to your eye when cycled from the shoulder.

And while I am at it, here is a couple of pics of my US property marked Savage 720. Used for aerial gunnery training during WWII.

Finally picked up my low rib Citori XS Special /w 32" bbls after the ten day wait. Pretty sexy gun; the fit and feel is just so much nicer than your basic Remington autoloader that I'm so accustomed to. And I got a fair deal on it from a fellow CGN'er!

edit - And no, I did not use that can of WD-40 in the background to clean my gun lol!

You know what they say about opinions, right, HP.

I'm 50 y/o, my father owned two 1897 shotguns, one trench and one field, I believe I first shot the trench '97 when I was 9 or 10 years old, I still have it and others have come and gone in collections I've bought over the years. I'll stand by what I said above, I've jammed the top web of my hand with the '97 when shooting fast from the hip, and, historically speaking, the 1897 is awesome, especially in trench gun configuration, but as to function, the Rem. 870 and Mossy 500 are better designs.
