Default Is This Price Too High For Russian Sks?

Ok so I've been in the market for a Russian Sks for a minute it now and havent seen too many up for sale. Just saw one at my local gun shop and they are asking $560. It has all matching numbers and not a refurb, even the stock looks original as it is a slightly dark red. Is this stil too much? The shop wont go down on the price.

Nice Russians seem to usually run $400 to $500 on the forum, so it's a bit high.

If it is all matching Stamped and not electropencilled I might pay that little bit more, but it would have to be really nice

It has like two scratches on the wood. I didnt see a bow but it has the star and date, 1953. Overall it looks really good compared to what I have seen.

Seriously. I remember them in crates on the floor of the gun shop. MAK-90s too. If I wasn't like 12 years old I would have snagged a few.

a little high, but not so high that it'd be a rip off if it's in great condition and you plan on keeping it for a long time. There's a Russian one around here that's going for over $800 IIRC. But they claim it's never been fired and all the numbers match. THAT is too much if you ask me. $560.....it's cutting it close to the mark for sure....

If you can't find one locally, then you have to factor in the cost of shipping so it's really not that high. Typically, a nice one goes between $450 and $500.

Not according to Turners. They have one on there on line gun rack for $800.00. I saw that and had to start laughing. They are crazy! Yes $560.00 sounds high.

Exactly.
If you dig it, what's an extra $75-100?

A bit on the high side, but in the ballpark. 50s Tula SKSs are in pretty high demand lately, I noticed.

The gas tube's of both original as well as refurb Soviet SKS rifles may show electro pencil numbers. All other numbers should be stamped and matching with no line outs.

Originals solid wood stocked rifles should look like this: Very dark red shellac.

Original laminated rifles should look like this:

I paid about $560 for mine from traders 5-6 years ago. Paid $500 for my Norinco about the same time. Even the Yugos are over $300 now.

For a like new Izhevsk made rifle thats a great deal. Maybe a bit high for a Tula made one, but remember in all likelihood no more will ever be imported.

Tula markings:

1955 and 1956 Tula star marked receiver.(no other top cover or stock marks)

Izhevsk markings:

What price would you buy it for? Down the road will, you be pleased with yourself because you passed on it and saved 80 bucks. Or would you rather have it, shoot it, and the $80 will mean very little after having the gun for many years? You can blow a c-note on a meal and a couple drinks. Better to acquire a good SKS.

The best question, if you really want an SKS, is are you going to find a better deal?

Sounds a bit excessive. I bought an all-matching 1950 Tula from Turner's, of all places, for $450 a year ago.

Judging from the pics its a Tula solid wood stock. Anyways I went in on friday and offered them $500. They have to contact the owner and see if he"ll take the offer. I'll know by tomorrow.

Excellent. You'll love it. SKS's are one of the best rifles out there.
