So if thats AOW then all you need is a 200 dollar tax stamp correct?

How is it that this is not considered a SBS?

If I am not mistaken, since it is an AOW you can legally take of the BB, correct?

It's not considered an SBS because it never had a buttstock.
Form 1 = $200, form 4 = $5
You ARE mistaken. An AOW is registered to the end user as a handgun, therefore it needs a maglock.

sweet.

sucks that a Saiga-12 has to be sacrificed to make the AOW.

That's sooo typical of you. What?! 5 isn't good enough? I'll just put in 5 twice

It's not the length of the mag that counts, it's how well you place your shots.

Isn't this still considered a SBS according to CA law?

yes, CA considers this to be an SBS. However, as a federally-registered AOW, it is exempt from CA's SBS laws, but not exempt from CA's AW laws.

Hell, it would be legal with 20 round drums and a mag lock. Of course, that's providing the OP has access to legally owned +10 round mags.

nope. CA still considers it to be a pistol, so a fixed 11+ round mag creates an AW.

Now, if you wanted that AOW with >16.1" barrel, but <26" OAL, you might be able to run it without a mag-lock and with 11+ round mags But that is one of those super-evil combinations that we aren't suppposed to talk about

Eh. Just go 18" bbl and no stock. You still need a maglock, but can run >10rd mags. No pesky 90+ day wait for the tax stamp. Not to mention, you can forego the rebuild onto a virgin receiver.

How is it that it never had a butt stock? Arent they all imported with butt stocks?

Or is it that the FFL just sold it to you without one?

it has been opined that if you rebuilt it on a virgin receiver and built it with an 18" barrel and >26" OAL, but never installed a buttstock (and the receiver had a pistol trunnion) in a Cruiser config, that you wouldn't even need that maglock

But I do see what you mean that getting a tax stamp to lose just 1.9" of barrel length isn't that smart an idea.

PRK took a brand new Saiga 12 and cut it up. they then created a new receiver and attached the parts from the S-12 that they previously demilled.

I stand corrected. I was distracted with work and typed without thinking things through. I was thinking of shotguns and not AOWs not being AWs with +10 fixed mags on them.

no problem. I've done the same thing and started thinking up a evil design that would be CA legal, and then realize that its an AW

That would not be in a pistol configuration. The 18" barrel/26" overall length/built on virgin receiver is a title 1 firearm. It would be the same length as a standard Saiga12 without a butstock. A far cry from this 16" beauty.

ETA* you're looking at a pricetag in the neighborhood of $2500

for the item pictured above, it would not be a violation of federal or state law to put a VFG on that.

Nope. Ivan is a stereotypical name for a Russian. Similar to "Ruskie"

Hmm...how exactly did they get their hands on a Saiga 12 receiver that never had a buttstock on it? Is it U.S. made?

I'm really diggin that! I want one now! This would be the ultimate mall ninja home defense weapon equipped with a drum mag, vertical grip, tactical light, red dot sight and topped off with a laser.
