Default heads-up on a S&W 657-4 3" in Turlock

...just fondled it at Alquist Arms in Turlock; it's a 657-4 ("pre lock") in .41 magnum with 3" barrel; with bead-blasted finish and rosewood grips. In EXC condition, and the shop is asking $800 (it is a consignment gun).

Don't think I've ever seen one of these in the wild...nice gun in a great caliber.

Very nice collection

Quick question, I just DROS'd my first 3" N frame with round butt, a 629. What grips do you prefer? I'll be shooting primarily 44 special rounds out of it. I normally use Hogues on my square butt N frames but they look out of place on the 3" rb frame.

I took the smooth combat grips off and put these on. The smooth combats felt great but got real slippery. Not good for a carry gun IMO. These new grips have checkering that's aggresive and they really stick in the hand. Plus they're a bit shorter and print less when carrying.

Stopped by Alquist Arms today. The Smith Model 657 was still for sale as of 2:00 this afternoon. She's a beauty alright and is in new or like new condition. I made an offer on it but, the seller hasn't got back to me yet. It is a pre-lock model however, the firing pin is located internally in the frame vs on the hammer. It's a real nice piece.

I enjoy the rd but combat grips the most though they are hard to find. I have large hands and the feel good. I also like nills and bill Jordan grips also shown inthe picture for round butt.

Rgs is showing eagle grips, they do grip well but they are very narrow. I did not like them on my 627pc
