I might if it were a weekend event or something. Any excuse to camp is a good one.

Depending on location, I can teach the class, and yes, assuming you pass the test, I could provide hunter education certificates, I can't provide a license, but u would be able to immediately go to any location that sells them and present the card to purchase a license, then the remainder if weekend would be for hunting. I was thinking anyone interested could do the home study option then the 4 hours with me, for me it depends really on time/date and location

This would be a good deal for those whom need it! and would be worth the trip in it self 'Thanks for the offer Tripper!!' and on the local that is not a set deal it can be anywhere? I just like that area, if anyone has any ideas let's hear them!. As for dates I was thinking July 1st that is the day Rabbit season opens it land's on a friday, that could be a three day adventure for some, or the following weekend would work too.

I am going to hunt them this season with a recurve because cotton tails are so dumb. With a 22 lr it is not challenging i might use a 22 pistol that is fun to.

Well for any new hunters, I'd recommend not getting an actual license til jul 1 or rather don't spend the money on the remainder of 2010-2011 season which ends jun 30. Once you have hunter Ed, u can purchase 2011-2012 season license and just await jul 1 to hunt, which is usually the open for rabbits (brush, cottontail, pigmy and varying hare). Tree squirrel and jack rabbits are year round. Doing a home study class on or just prior to July 2 weekend could be good. I would just need a location, outdoors is acceptible, weather permitting.

This was only a suggestion, anywhere that holds Rabbit's would work really, I've personally never hunted up towards your way...But open to all ideas and it should be somewhat central for those interested if in fact that can be done. hello guy's any input???

Well my wife might not be opposed to a July 1st weekend thing, for best results and being able to get a license, being sort of close to civilization would b a plus, wife also likes a few amenities when camping

How about meeting halfway between the Central Coast and Los Angeles, I have 3 other people with me that will go and will take the online class and then your 4 hour course. I think there are a few more people on here from Socal that needed licenses.

I'm in So. OC but will drive up to 3 hrs. Hey Tripper...I took the online course, the a 4 hr class to get my hunting license 2 yrs ago but no cert. Now I'm told I need it to hunt outside of CA. I aced the Hunter Safetly test and would appreciate any advice on the easiest way to get a cert. I'm 51 yrs old and work 80-90 hrs a week so my free time is very precious.

the OP was talking rabbit, jack rabbit, thereby doesnt have a season opening per say.
My thought was, 40$ to get a license, for less than a month remaining in the license year, would not be worth a few jack-rabbits.
getting the hunter ed course out of the way, either on Jul 1 or maybe a week prior, would be then buying a 40$ hunting license thats good for the next 12 months. and as of July 1, almost any small game is legal and open season.

I still have to settle with my wife/family too, but, I'll see about working something out, looks like we have the weekend prior to jul1 open actually.

btw, my fees would be just covering my primary expenses to get and stay, wherever it is, and maybe feed me, otherwise, no other fees.
the location, must allow firearms.

Tripper

I have to take a hunters ed class just to go hunt rabbits? How much does this class cost? Is this just another dumb california thing? I`ve never heard of having to take a class to go hunting.

Hawk,
Yes you have to take a class to buy a hunting license if you were born after 1966(I think) If you can challenge the test its possible but you only have to take the class and test once. Its not just a CA think every state requires it.Then you can hunt in any state after getting that card. Its worth it if you plan to take up hunting.

As to cost
I only charge my expenses, all in attendance basically pitches in and pays fir my gas to get wherever and feeds me, camp site if stay overnight.
Basically I dont do it for profit.

I will check on this. Go figure I was born in 1966 so now i`m going to have to see what side of the fence i`m on.

Challenging the test only allows license in CA, no good if u plan on out if state, and has like a 90% fail rate as I understand
