Also do you recommend putting the SSN on? I don't put them on my DROS forms when registering for a gun, but just wondering if it would help or not here as well.
I didn't but mine took three days longer than someone who did nter their SS#... If you have the time, don't bother.

I think I'm going to head down to the HB PD and have them done there. Ryan was saying they are really professional and cheap.

Ok, let me get this straight. Im a marine stationed in MCAS Yuma. I have an arizona DL.

Does this mean i can obtain my CCW permit for AZ by submitting proof of completion of basic training (boot camp) therefore bypassing the need to take the normal 8 hour CCW course?

If this is a yes... Can someone link me to where i can request this application.

Thanks,

That is correct. Your current DD-214 should show completion of basic training, which will satisfy all of the training/live fire requirements.

Fill out this e-mail form here and they will get you an application packet ASAP:
https://www.azdps.gov/About/Contacts/Email/?c=CCW

You'll get an instruction sheet, a single-page application, return envelope, and two FBI fingerprint cards.

Then anything official that shows a successful graduation from boot camp would suffice.

Sent my application in on the 22nd of June... Still waiting...

I want to go to NV to get my CCW there as well, but will wait.

The CCW unit in AZ said there is a "problem" with the investigation, but won't tell me what it's about, other than that "my name might be close to someone else's with a record"...

Erik.

Still waiting.. I emailed them again and they said they expect to hear back from the FBI "soon"

The whole thing seems rather odd to me. I know I'm in the FBI system as I've been fingerprinted more times than I can remember from working in Law Enforcement a few lifetimes ago, not to mention my recent livescan for SAC SO for my CCW there.

That's where I'm at *still*, too. The nice lady on the phone couldn't tell me what the hangup is and I know it's nothing in the background itself. Maybe the folks that run the checks are backed up. If it's taking them a week to go from getting it in their mailbox to getting it into their system, it would make sense that there is a system-wide slowdown.

Talked with AZ CCW Unit this AM and was told that my permit was approved on the 13th. I looked in the mail today, but nothing. I would imagine that it will be here before 07/31 when I head to NV for my CCW there. So far though, it's a win.

Just requested my packet on Thursday right after getting the low down from Andy out on the range. Looking forward to getting it filled out and mailed back. Hopefully all done before my trip to AZ and UT.

In the Air Force, we had a record of each time we shot at the range and what our score was. Not sure what branch of service you are in, but do you have something like that?

Right on ... you sent off for yours! My wife and I sent off for ours on July 1st. I got mine last Saturday, July 16th and my wife just got hers today, July 18th. Pretty fast! Pretty cool!

I'm actually starting to teach the NRA Basic Pistol courses for people who don't have any exemptions to the training requirements. I have one this weekend but it's already all full. Looks like I'm going to have to start doing them more often.

See you on the range soon!

BTW, I dropped by HBPD yesterday afternoon for my prints after reading on the website that that department is open 7 days a week, 8-5.

When I got there they said Nope! tuesday, wednesday, thursday only, 8-1.

Thanks for nothing idiots!

6/30 received packet
7/1 mail packet off to AZ
7/19 called to check on status and was told it was just put into the system for background check on 7/18. WTF, some have already received permits that mailed the packet after me????

Finally got mine, a month after sending in the app.

Note to all, I emailed the AZ dps office last week, on the 19th, and received a response that it was in the background check phase. I received it today, with an issue date of the 19th. I think if you have waited more than a few weeks, a polite email may speed things along!

I just called and they were nice enough to confirm that I'm in the system. They expect to send out my permit today.

7/8 is when they received my app.

AZ DPS is amazing,, fast service, polite, responsive, and you get a cool plastic card that is good till 2016. Folks here is CA DOJ could learn a thing or two from them.

Note to all, I emailed the AZ dps office last week, on the 19th, and received a response that it was in the background check phase. I received it today, with an issue date of the 19th. I think if you have waited more than a few weeks, a polite email may speed things along!
Called again today(told last Wed. that it was in the system as of 7/18) and found out why mine is taking so long. Apparently if the FBI check shows ANYTHING it flags your application for further checking by a person. I had a misdemeanor arrest(no conviction, charges dropped) in 1989 so someone has to follow up on the details to make sure it's not a disqualifier. So those of you who got them fast probably were clean and the computer system kicks out a permit, the rest of us get put into the manual check system.

If this is a yes... Can someone link me to where i can request this application.

Thanks,
A couple things here. I'm sure your military ID would suffice, if you go in person and show them, obviously you graduated Boot Camp, otherwise you wouldn't be out in public..
Second, you're a resident of the state with your AZ DL, therefore you don't even need a CCW. Didn't that law pass a while back where AZ residents can now carry without a permit?? Appearently the permit comes in handy for out of state carry where authorized.

The AZ CCW gives you three major things:

1.) No requirement to actively notify police that you are carrying.
2.) Restaurant carry.
3.) Reciprocity in other states.

1.) Not necessarily so. Maybe not in AZ, but when you carry in other states with AZ CCW, or any other states CCW, you follow that states laws, which may require you to inform LE when approached by LE.

2.) You can do that now, regardless of where you are with most all CCW's, again, same applies as with #1.

3.) That is why you would want an AZ CCW and again, #1 applies.

Regarding these two points, I was talking about why an AZ resident would want an AZ CCW, since constitutional carry is allowed. The previous poster couldn't understand why someone living in AZ would get an AZ CCW for INSIDE AZ.

With AZ constitutional carry, you cannot carry in a bar/restaurant and you have a duty to inform LEO's that you are carrying.

Obviously things are totally different if you are getting one for another states reciprocity.
