Default safe recomendations

I am ready to buy a gun safe and in my area there are a couple of those supposed direct dealers that "cut out the middle man." One of them is patriot safes and the other one is in Long Beach I forget the name. Are these safes any good or do I need to lay down the big money on like Liberty, Heritage, Browning, etc.?

My next safe...if there is ever any reason to get one would be a $4000 custom made safe from the likes of Brown Safe in SD Co or equivalent.

my current safe was $1600 and is a decently large 800 lb firesafe made by sturdy safe in Fresno. pretty utilitarian and not glossy with brass hardware, but it is pretty thick.

other than that, I'd take whatever jewelers safe I could find on the used market. I have seen some 30 year old Amsecs for sale in gunstores (estate trade-in's I think) for well under a $1000. the old school ones seem to have a generous amount of steel in them.

I was actually looking at the ones on the Costco site. I kind of liked the Liberty Premier safe they have for $1099.

I have a Liberty safe in the fancy dark green paint and it has been wonderful. Just make sure to get it up off of the floor even if you have carpet as the bottoms will leave some slight rust stains. I took a piece of 3/4" plywood and covered it in carpet and it makes a nice looking base for it. Mine is on slate so it is even more important than being on carpet.

Cannon, hands down. They have the best warranty I've ever seen, they're located in San Bernardino and are often sold at Costco.

1. Safe drilling or opening $150 - $300
2. Safe repair, if possible, in-home $150 -$500+
3. Freight to factory $300+
4. Freight to home from factory $300+
CANNON CUSTOMERS PAY $0

I got my Cannon Patriot P14 on eBay through an AWESOME 'blemished goods' vendor (http://myworld.ebay.com/gotsafes/). My safe has a small nick on it, which reduced its price by $200.

Good luck,

Mike

Cannon safes are definantly excellent quality, and are priced right. Be very wary of no-name safe companies you find at gun shows. My dad bought one at a gun show from a company who he later found it changes its name every so often and never follow up on warranties. The locking mechanism failed to function, and the safe could no longer be opened. He later traded in that safe for a Cannon from Dean's Safe Co. in LA.

My only thought on a good safe is get a big one as the way the political climate is expected to head the near future. You might want to find and purchase what ever you might want in the near future as another Federal AW Ban might be just around the corner.

Maybe you can do what I did I found a coin shop that was closing and I bought his jewelers safe and converted it to hold my firearms.
