Default Officers size 1911 in 10mm or conversion ??

is there such a thing as a 10mm conversion for an officers model 1911? Does anyone still make a 10mm conversion for standard size 1911s?

Thanks!

The 10mm is a very snappy cartridge when fired out of a full-size pistol---the "Officers" grip is even shorter---I don't know if this is a good idea. But if you want one, I am sure someone will be willing to make one.

Seems like Kimber or SA had a Commander sized 10mm...also STI?

Glock 29?

I've thought about the Block 29, but I'm a diehard 1911 guy. I've owned quite a few pistols over the years but the only ones I've never sold (or thought about selling) are my 1911s.

Wanted a 1911 10 mm...everybody wanted too much.....settled for a g20....i think if youll be shooting real full power loads youll need a fullsize frame and barrel....still want a colt delta though....or cz damascus...

I've had a couple compact pistols in .40S&W and found them too "sharp" in the recoil and tough to shoot accurately. It's been my experience that 10mm is a little smoother. That, and I like "different" which the 10mm definately is.

I wanted a Delta Elite too, until a close friend of mine got one years ago. He was pretty disappointed in it and so was I. I know that's heressey, but it was a real bummer.

A short officer length slide and a long cartridge like the 10mm would make for an unreliable 1911. That's probably why you don't see 10mm officer sized 1911s.

I didn't see any 10mm 1911s on the CA roster.

I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a 10mm 1911 shorter than Commander length...and that one had a compensator on the end of it's barrel.

I would think the reduced mass and resultant increased slide velocity would make feeding problematic

Well, that explains why I never see short 10mm 1911s.

As far as the BS roster goes: That's why I'm looking for a conversion. Are there any still in production??

I'm not sure about current production. Most 10mm I've seen are custom jobs. If you have a spare 1911 frame you can probably have a good pistol smith build one for you. Just simply swapping slide assemblies and mags won't do. The frame mounted ejectors are different. BTW, never install an extended 10mm ejector.

I know Wilson won't make one in anything shorter than a government length and in steel. Great gun!

I know anything is "possible", but I'm not too thrilled about putting a ton of money into a custom pistol that I could lose if I ever had to use it. I may have to revisit the Block 29. The size and price is right for a carry pistol, but I feel like a traitor even thinking about buying one of those things!

10mm is the same length as a .45ACP

This.

The problem with the shorter 1911s is the slide does not come back as far to the rear as a full size...the shorter guns have a shorter slide travel, too.
With the strong recoil spring required for the 10mm, the slide in a shorter gun will usually come forward too fast for the next round in the magzine to rise up quickly enough to properly feed.

I want to build one in 7.62X25 and there are quite a few details to get fixed first. At least the 10mm is available.

Im in the same exact spot right now. I decided to order a Kimber Eclipse and found a GS that will get me one for $1100 but the wait time for Kimbers right now is anywhere from 4 weeks to 10 months

I think Im going to get a Glock 20 also while Im waiting for the Kimber to get here.

Ya I carry a G20 but it's a big gun to carry so was hoping the commander would be a smaller profile to carry

Fusion Firearms is probably your best bet. They build lots of 10mm 1911s. They have pics on the forum of some commander 10mms.

Good luck!

If you get a commander in a 40 SW, a gunsmith can recut the chamber and make the necessary changes for 10mm. Or you can just get a barrel/bushing/spring combo to switch calibers.

That's pretty cool and exactly what I'm looking for. Did you do the work yourself or have a gunsmith do it? What parts were used?

there are a few models out there, and you can always build one off a .40 slide.

It looks like both Caspian and Fusion offer .40 / 10mm slides in a variety of lengths. Fusion had barrels on their website, but I didn't see any on Caspian's. Now my only issue is where to get a frame?? In Kalifornia are we stuck buying a complete, rostered pistol then stripping it or is there a way to get stripped frames (a la OLL ARs) that I don't know about??

Since Colt has re-introduced the Delta Elite, if you are anywhere near a store that does single shot conversions, I'd get one of those.

I've been considering the re-issued Deltas. I just haven't done the legwork to get one in. I there anyone in Bakersfield that can do the whole conversion? I know PRK in Fresno will and they're only about 2hrs. away.
