Arrow S. San Joaquin AK Build Party - Jun 25/26

New to building? EXCELLENT, you'll be hooked in no time! First things first for those of you who've not built yet, the AK Team has put together several brief tutorials with some very, very useful information. I consider these to be a must-read to make things a little more comfortable for you and so we can keep the repetitive questions to a minimum:
1. A Tutorial for AK Build Parties
2. Homebuilt Firearms - Serial Numbers and Other Issue
3. Advice/Warning to AK builders and Enthusiasts

*THAT SAID...please do not hesitate to ask questions after you've read through those, it's a lot of new information to take in.

WEATHER: Saturday/Sunday are forecasted to be 96 and 94, low humidity and a breeze. The last couple days have been 105-107 and the shop stayed a consistent 85 degrees with the A/C on (that's a 20 degree temp differential!!). So come prepared for mid-90's weather and high 70's/low 80's inside the shop

FOOD:
Those of you that were here the first time around will recall Roaming Bird BBQ's excellence. I have an update from Roaming Bird BBQ, too. He can do BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, their own BBQ sauce and a couple of sides that should cover 3 meals (Sat - lunch/dinner and Sun - lunch) for $15/person total(*$10 was my own initial estimate). Money for that can be collected at the Build, no need for payment in advance.

In addition to the catered BBQ, guacamole, ceviche and anything anyone else happens to bring, I plan to either make ice cream or buy it from the local creamery, Superior Dairy, unless you're lactose intolerant I think you'll be okay with either option.

I think most people ate Sunday breakfast in town, brought their own snack food or just salivated until lunch on Sunday.

BEVERAGES:
Do not buy bottled water, there's no need. We have awesome, clean, delicious well water. You can drink out of the garden hose, sink faucet or the 10-gallon igloo container of ice-water.

We'll have a few ice chests, *IF* you have extra room, bring an ice chest and bag of ice. Bring some sodas, gatorade or whatever. Open containers of alcohol are not permitted inside the shop. I doubt you'll have time to get away but there is a convenience store three minutes away if you find yourself without satisfactory beverage supply.

ACCOMODATIONS:
This is a residence with a full size shop on premises, shop bathroom is a 1/2 bath: toilet/sink.

There is plenty of room on the grass lawn for people to throw tents/sleeping bags to camp out ; there is plenty of room for 5th wheel/motorhome parking (with power & water hookup) ; there are a few reasonably priced hotels & several restaurants within 10 minutes of the BP location.

WEEKEND BREAKDOWN:
Saturday
+check-in
-liability waiver
-double check to make sure no one has illegal Full Auto parts.
-$50 Builder Fee
-$15 BBQ/Food Fee (~3 professionally catered BBQ meals)
-Orientation & Safety Instruction
+Build
+Eat
+Build/test fire
+Eat
+Drink in town

Sunday
+You're on your own for breakfast, several places nearby in town
+Build/test fire/parkerize
+Eat
+Clean shop
+Go to your home
+Spread the building disease to others

If you missed the last one, you really missed out, here's a few pictures & some flyover video from the last time around:

Default Shop Equipment/Tools And Such

San Joaquin AK Build Party

Between Fresno and Visalia,

Shop has a drill press, hydraulic ram/press, HUUGE air compressor, 110/220v are both sufficient for welding(MIG/TIG used frequently here), bathroom, clean country well water, insulated, air conditioned, radio, broadband wi-fi. Closest neighbor is 1/4 mile away, private 'designated range' area to test fire.

For Builders, there will be a charge of $50 for the event to offset the cost of shop use, air conditioning, tool purchase & replacement costs, accommodations, bathroom supplies and general chaos. (NO 1 day discounts PLEASE do not ask.)*Helpers are not subject to the fee and will not be building their own but helping you, the builder; a portion of the fee will help subsidize the hotel rooms/fuel for the finest traveling instruction team I've yet to encounter. **Fee will be collected the morning of the event before we get started.

Rules:
ALL State/Federal Laws WILL be complied with at all times while on the premises, failure to do so will result in being escorted off the property.

• 40 Builder Guest List Maximum Capacity.

• 1st time AK builder Limit: 1 AK build per person. (Recommended to bring an extra flat as a backup just in case a mistake is made on the first.)

• Experienced builder Limit: 2 AK builds per person.

• Only bring a kit that has an ORIGINAL UNCUT barrel also a matching numbers kit is also recommended.

• NEW AKBuilder bent and trimmed flats ONLY (NDS is OK). NO Tapco flats!!!

• NO picture taking of ANY attendees will be permitted other than by the helpers. (Documenting YOUR build is OKAY but no face shots of any other builder or helper other than yourself will be tolerated.)

Please sign me up as a builder. Also, if anybody needs a kit I'm going to try and take some pics so I can post in the for sale section some matching original Romy G kits I have to sell.

Hmmm,
If Lard, CA is the Spanish translation for the railroad misspelling of the town's name you're in I should be heading through that neck of the woods on my way down.
Potentially need to be a ride for SJGG also but if your ride is larger than the 'go-cart' then it has possibilities.

I will be there again for sure as a builder again, should have the 5th wheel again, and I will bring a couple pheasants for your taste buds enjoyment.

Please have a duct work needed to run A/C into 5th wheel, and i hope the pool will be clean. Also please make sure the airplane fly-over does not interfear with the skydiving display we have set up and that when the outdoor channel is filming that they keep our faces off the screen

The live wild pig practice targets are really cool, so lets keep them and lets have the chef do some appitizers earlier. I dont think thats asking too much since Greasemonkey set the bar so high last time

I hope everybody and more turn out this time. I really enjoyed this place! Potential builders who have never attended a build party have NO CLUE how spoiled you would be to work in this shop!!
