Default Is there any CA Legal 50 Cal Rifle

Starting to do so research for deciding what kind of .50 cal rifles that are legal in California.

I like the challenge of shooting long range...1000+ yards.

Any suggestions?

No new .50 BMG rifles are legal.

Other varieties in the .50 caliber group are fine.

.50 DTC is a popular choice.

You can't buy .50 BMG shoulder fired rifles anymore. You can get a .50 cal semi auto ex-machine gun though.

There are calibers very close to .50 BMG that are superior in many ways.

Even .308 or 30 06 can reach 1000 yards.

any shoulder fired rifle not chambered for the .50 BMG. i think that .50 DTC is the "standard replacement" for lack of owning a .50 BMG RAW in the PRK

Go with the .416 Barrett. You can get an upper for your AR15 here:

http://www.tactilite.com/vmchk/model...-products.html

Closest thing you can get to a .50BMG.

Actually 50 DTC would be the closest, especially since its actually the same bullet diameter and is formedd off of 50 bmg brass.

If your firm set on going BIG TIME, I personally would opt for something like the 375 Cheytac for my "really reach out and touch something!!!" rig.

The ballistics for that round are off the hook! Hardly anything the .50 BMG can hold a candle to, thats for sure...

408 Cheytac isn't bad either...

After that though, I would say .338 Lapua is a great round to have fun with. If you don't want any of those...Then a 7mm mag, .270 or even just .308 will do perfectly fine out to 1k...

So are you planning on starting from 1k and moving up to like 2.1 or 2.2k? Or are you going to remain static at that number?

Because unless you start to push ranges past 1300 yards or so, then is not really cost effective to go with the .338 and above...

Have fun picking your next caliber!

Well, after years and years of repeated terrorist attacks by .50 Caliber weilding maniacs, I can clearly see how the Legislature came to this conclusion:

(b)The Legislature hereby finds and declares that the proliferation and use of .50 BMG rifles, as defined in Section 12278, poses a clear and present terrorist threat to the health, safety, and security of all residents of, and visitors to, this state,
