Default CA Approved .380 Pistols

I'd like to get a small .380, but of course it seems like all the ones I'm looking at are not currently on the big Brother approved list, does anyone know if there's anything in the works to get these approved?: Ruger LCP, S&W Bodyguard 380, Taurus ACP and SIG P238.

Taurus ACP ($259)

Ruger LCP ($299)

S&W Bodyguard 380 ($349)

SIG P238 ($550)

Here are the .380 that did come up, appreciate any recommendations.

Sorry I'm not familiar with this bit of legislation, a quick search came up with some sort of minimum length requirement that I believe would disqualify these guys??

As part of the single-shot mod, a longer barrel is installed that makes it meet the mimum length requirements.

If you're near Milpitas, stop in. If not, give them a call. They will explain the process to you. They have LCP's, Sig p238's, and everything else you could want. Careful though, being free from the roster is a slippery slope, one that will seriously impact your bank account.

of the ones on list, I would get the CZ or the Sig 232. Though I have heard good things about the Bersas also.

Nothing comes close to the Bersa Thunder. Over the last 30 years I've shot pretty much every 380 made. The Bersa is completely in a class by itself... and it is only $279.

+1 on the bresa. Also, Kahr now has a new .380 that is ca legal. I will be purchasing mine next Wedendsay and will give a heads up 10 days or so after that.

The Besa is a fine gun, but what it is not is a pocket pistol. when it comes to .380's there are a lot of nice ones out there, but many of us , like me, when it comes to a .380 for carry, we are looking for a very small pocket gun, and the Besa does not fit that roll, in that class were talking about the LCP, P380, .380 Bodyguard etc..

There are 9MM's out there about the same size and lighter than a Bersa, so yes, a Bersa/Firestorm is a good gun, but not a good pocket gun.

FWIW...I love my P230. (Now comes as a P232) It's light weight and very concealable. Can't wait until the Kimber Solo becomes available though.

Those new little .380's generally don't have magazine disconnects and chamber load indicators as required to get a new handgun on the roster. I bought a Sig P238 in a face to face private party transfer using the private sales forum here NIB. Keep watching that forum for your favorite one to pop up, it eventually will. I've seen several LCP's and Keltec P3AT's (gun the LCP kinda copied) on the forum also. Haven't seen that Taurus yet though but maybe I havnt really looked

Um...unless I missed something the OP did not ask for a pocket pistol!

Yes you right that the op did not ask for a pocket pistol in those words, but he asked ""I'd like to get a small .380""

And also ""does anyone know if there's anything in the works to get these approved?: Ruger LCP, S&W Bodyguard 380, Taurus ACP and SIG P238.""

These are all true pocket pistols, so maybe he didn't call them pocket pistols, but since he wanted "small" and since all the guns he asked for are true Pocket pistols, I took it that he was looking for a pocket pistol, maybe I was wrong?

I like the Bersa my self, I'd like to get a two tone one, it would round off my collection of .380's since I have the LCP and P380, (cant afford the Sig) but I might get a Diamondback next, but not sure, I've read reviews from lots of folks who are having problems with them?

I am not roster exempt, but these guns are all available to us, through either single shot, private party and in my case, I have kids who live in Utah.

Yet another vote for the Bersa. I just picked up mine a week ago due to all the positive feedback I had read about it on the net. I had never even seen one in person before, but for $299 or less how can you go wrong?!

Brianm,
I too was pleasantly surprised and happy with my Bersa Thunder 380. I do have the duo tone black and gold one.
However, for CCW I won't go lower than .38 +p and prefer my S&W 442 &642.

Good words also on the Bersa 380 thunder.

Bersa has a 380 thunder cc (concealed carry)
which is off list as well, they have lowered the sights and made the outline a bit smoother for CCW.

Love the Bersa too, make sure you get the right personal protection rounds some don't feed well. Corboon DPX shoots great for me.
