Default CaPRC Marksmanship Clinic "A" 9-25-11

The California Precision Rifle Club will be holding a "new precision rifle shooter" marksmanship clinic on 9/25/2011 at Angeles.
We will teach you how to get behind the gun/scope, attaining proper eye relief, using the features of the scope and natural point of aim.
Then we will check your zero at 100yds and get the knobs set to zero and work on the basics of marksmanship.
The course curriculum was written by a former USMC scout sniper instructor.
This is a beginning precision rifle shooter clinic so we will concentrate on basic marksmanship as it is the basis of all future learning.

Not often. Maybe twice a year at most.

In!

Thanks for posting this, oni. Would not have known about it otherwise.

(And boy do I need an "A" clinic. Is there a pre-A? )

I did this class earlier this year. Great training. And immense value for money.

Note the very wide range of weapon types, factory and handloaded ammunition, ages, genders, and shooting styles:

Contrary to what some believe, you do not require a very expensive scope/rifle/ammunition combination to get started in precision riflery. The most important ingredient is desire, and that is free.

CaPRC teaches range safety as well as marksmanship and competition skills. Once the rifles are cleared and chamber flags inserted, let's check the targets:

The targets are small not to demoralize new precision shooters but rather to highlight errors in technique.

One of the stated goals of CaPRC is to bring new shooters into precision riflery. That is why CaPRC holds these Clinics. These photos were from the Clinic "A" last month, more details about which can be found here:

http://www.caprc.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2965

Those shooters who completed Clinic "A" this year and who wish to participate in Clinic "B" on the 23rd of this month can find more details here:

http://www.caprc.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2965

We encourage participation and hope to see you on the 23rd.

MAKE THE SHOT.

Thanks for the pics. I need to get a shooting mat to replace that Freightliner blanker lol. I will do my best to attend Clinic B. Great time and a great class.

Peter, it's great that you're excited about precision riflery and getting a shooting mat. However, don't feel as though you need a shooting mat to shoot precision rifle. Lots of us use moving blankets to shoot and they work just fine.

Here's Randall shooting a match from a moving blanket:

Here's Seth shooting a match from a moving blanket:

The blanket didn't seem to impede his shooting either. Seth won that match:

One of my favorite photos from the Clinic A is this one:

That woman in the foreground brought her sporting clays vest. It worked just fine.

An open mind and an eagerness to learn will be far more important to a successful clinic experience than a dedicated shooting mat. Bring what you have to Clinic B.

I read part of that post and for a second I thought "WTF?! They're shooting from a moving blanket? Where did they find a blanket that moves" haha.

Yes, I'm hooked. I think it was Townsend Whelen that said "only accurate rifles are interesting." Now I know what he meant.

ETA- I'm target 26. I was doing good until I started flinching and didn't use a rear bag on the bottom targets. Dry fire, dry fire, shooting, and dry fire I guess.
