Oh Saiga 12, how much clay popping fun have we had? Oh yes, I remember.... plenty

My favorite comment someone made last time I took it out was, "I think you ran out of ammo before the first shell hit the ground!"

It seems I inspired you with the barrel chop

Looks good.

Default My S-12

Was messing around with some netting for camo... I only did the top cover. Later I'll do the rest of the shotgun.
Also bought some rails and put one on the top cover and my DIY handguard.

Can't see it in the pictures but the red dot is aligned with the front sight post.

I have to get a smaller bolt for the handguard. I drilled then tapped near the reciver.

Why do you have a maglock on the rifle and not the shotgun?

His shotgun has a different kind of BB solution. The paddle is cut off an needs a tool to remove the magazine.

I don't want to thread jack here, but does anyone have any info on how this is compared to say a solar tactical, or similar maglock? Feel free to PM me. Also the shotgun looks great. I may also go with the ace style stock.

Wow! Everything looks proper. You even plugged the holes.
See, there was nothing to it but to do it. Saved you some bucks didn't it?

Well, it probably saved me some money, but holy crap was that a pain in the ***! Long story... but everything worked out in the end!

Once I go back next week and get it parkerized it'll be pretty nifty... then to start thinking about more upgrades... I understand there are attachments that make changing mags easier, and a last round bolt hold-open mod...

If you get the mag well I don't believe you can use drum mags, I could be wrong but you should look into it. I'm pretty sure youll be stuck with surefire or agp. If you don't have any drum mags they are awesome, the shorten the length of the mag sticking out by a few inches. Those 10 and 12 rd stick mags are pretty long, theres no way you could lay down and shoot one. Plus you get really fast at changing mags even with the rock and lock and the bullet button. Practice makes perfect.

Was thinking of this actually... since I live in California I can't work with more then ten rounds anyway, but I was toying with the notion of a ten round drum...

Thats cool, I wonder how it works. I don't know if I would spend 50 bucks on it tho, I have no problem rocking my mags in. I love my Promag 10 round drum mags. They are awesome. Great conversion by the way. Is that a CSS trigger guard?

I could be mistaken but I think shotguns are not limited to the 10 round rule. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I'm really digging your charging handle on the S12. Where did you get the work done? I'll post pics of mine soon.

Cal. Penal Code 12020(a)(2), (b). A "large capacity magazine" is defined as any ammunition feeding device with the capacity to accept more than ten rounds, but does not include any .22 caliber tube ammunition feeding device, any feeding device that has been permanently altered so that it cannot accommodate more than ten rounds, or any tubular magazine that is contained in a lever-action firearm. Section 12020(c)(25). California does not ban the possession of large capacity magazines.

So only tubular .22 mags and lever action firearms are exempted. Shotguns are not exempted. But as you can see, possession of large capacity magazines is not illegal, but obtaining it legally is the hard part.

California does not ban the possession of large capacity magazines.

tubular .22 mags and lever action firearms are exempted. Shotguns are not exempted. So only But as you can see, possession of large capacity magazines is not illegal, but obtaining it legally is the hard part.
Sorry bud but your wrong, you didn't give the definition of an Assault Weapon when applied to a shotgun. I will highlight the sections that apply to this.

12276.1. (a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall also mean any of the following:
(1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
(2) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds

The key word is centerfire rifle, a shotgun is not a centerfire rifle. Shotguns have a completely different set of laws in which to comply with.

(6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
(A) A folding or telescoping stock.
(B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.
(7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
(8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder
.

There is nothing here that says a fixed mag with more then 10 rounds is illegal. Remember, there are 2" shotgun shells, so your normal 8 shot 930 mossy or Remmy 1100 could be turned into an evil AW simply by loading those 2" shells? I don't think so and that part of the law would be tossed out with 1 lawsuit.

EDIT: Forgot 922(r) compliance. More complications!

You're right and wrong. (but I won't call you "bud").

You *can* legally attach 11+rd magazines to a converted or 922(r) compliant S12. It does not make it an assault weapon to use a "large capacity" magazine with a shotgun.

HOWEVER....the "Large Capacity Magazine" ban DOES keep you from selling, importing, manufacturing, giving, or lending a "large capacity" S12 magazine.

Get it? It's *two* issues. Sure, you *can* legally use *legally acquired* S12 drums/mags in your converted or 922(r) compliant S12. The problem is, how do you legally acquire a 12/20 rd Saiga 12 magazine?

I was going under the assumption that the converted Saiga 12's would be 922(r) compliant, since the FCG (3 parts) and the buttstock (1 part) need to be swapped out anyway. Acquiring the drums legally isn't an issue for me, my reply was correcting the misinformation and posting the actual penal code that pertains to AW shotguns.
The info that I highlighted was what he posted. CApc 12020 is a catch all for "bad things that might or possibly used as weapons".12276 is the actual penal code that has the definition of an AW in California. When answering legal questions it helps to post the PC so everyone is clear.
Trust me, I know the laws backwards and forwards, if I don't know I have people to call anytime I need to get the right info, whether it be our ATF agent, CA DOJ (useless 90% of the time), Bill Wiese, or the lawyers.

How am I wrong? Nowhere did I mention the word assault weapon? Did I? I guess you were assuming that's what I was talking about, but you know what they say about assuming... I was strictly talking about the legality of high capacity magazines which is what someone was asking, and they believed that shotguns magazines were exempt from the high cap mag ban, which they are not. That is why I did not mention the assault weapon PC. And as I stated possession is not a crime. However as Ghetto has said, its the manufacturing, importing, lending, or giving that would be the crime. Which is WHY I said that possession is not a crime, but how you legally acquire them is the tricky part.
