RALEIGH, N.C. --
North Carolina's newest Representative says the deadly shooting rampage in Arizona has made her concerned for her own safety.

Rep. Renee Ellmers says she has a concealed carry permit and plans to carry a handgun at public events.

This is pretty much the perfect response to a shooting like the one that just occurred. You go, Renee Ellmers!

I heard her talking and she said she would carry more often. I took that to mean that she already carries but would make an effort to um, carry more often.

Hopefully she'll sign in to a law that would permit her to carry in Washington D.C.

Better yet, what if the governor has declared a state of emergency in NC? Better to just turn in all privately owned firearms so the police can protect you. </sarcasm>

That's correct. She has a NC Concealed Handgun Permit. She discussed it during her campaign. She is NRA "A" rated and got the NRA endorsement near the end of the campaign.

She beat 8-term incumbent Bob Etheridge. Etheridge made a name for himself by assaulting a "college" student on tape on the streets of DC. while asking "Who are you?". Ellmers was the only Republican in NC to beat an incumbent Democrat for Congress.
