Default Mini FEB AK Build Party - *Inland Empire* -Feb 19th, 2011

Just like before, but better prepared!

This is just a one day gathering for some SoCAl and I.E. AK builders to come and do things in the furtherance of building/finishing their AK's.

This will be for about 10 people, 8am till dark. If you have some tools you know you will be using, bring them. If you have none, I have you covered. I just ask that you treat them as your own.

Things to do include:
Folding flats (AK builder only please)
Grind rails
Rivet trigger guard (manual and hydrolic)
Fit mag catch
MIG welding rails
Heat treating holes and rails (MAPP and Acetylene)
Setting rivets (rivet squeezer and long rivet jig)
Installing barrels (new or OE)
Setting head space (7.62 or 5.45)
Drilling barrel pin
Reaming anything (5mm, 7mm, and oversized barrel pin holes .300" and .314")
Populating barrel
Drilling gas port (Romy and Bulgy)
Drill 3mm & 4mm pin holes
Alum Oxide blasting
Parkerizing (now with pre-park blackening!)
Barrel threading (5/8-24, 14x1LH, 1/2-28)
Barrel cutting
Barrel crowning (no shotguns)

PM me with what you'd like to get done or to reserve a spot. I'd like to avoid bottle necks or lines for any one thing if I can. Price will be $35 for builders. Lurkers OK. I have some parts if your stuck, but they aren't cheap so come prepared! This will all be indoors, but tailgate AK'ing is pretty damn convenient!

Things I *can* do but don't without prep time and specific customer desire:
Duracoat/cerakote/paint
Torch welding
milling of stuff
TIG welding

Special requests considered.

Justin

Bummer. Maybe the March one.

Your spot welding position has been filled anyways.

We'll miss you. But I'll put you down for March's if you want. Or we can work something else out.

Just like last time, I'm ordering from AK-Builder and offering to let anyone get "free shipping" by tacking on any parts they may need to my order.

I will be placing the order around the 9th to insure it gets here ahead of time (normal shipping time is only a couple days).

If you think you'd like an extra flat, rivet pack or whatever, it will be here day of party.

I believe we have the magic number of attendee's now.

For those builders, bring a quart of oil and 2 cans of brake cleaner spray for each rifle you plan to blast and parkerize. It is far better to have a too clean piece than a crappy finish.

Also, if anybody wants something other than hotdogs for lunch we can pitch in to get a subway party size sandwich or pizza. Want to keep it simple for anyone who offers up assistance in feeding the herd. Drinks are covered if you like coke and sprite. As always, BYOB, LOC and BRB are all OK.

AK-Builder order going in on the 9th. You can pay me back day of party.

Any special barrel work or milling I recommend you show up at opening time so we can be sure your G2G before the fun ends.

Weather forecast is light rain. Good thing this is all indoors! (except maybe the park tank)

I'll have Friday open to anyone local that wants to come get a jump on things. VERY informal.

Got some more tables, another drill press, and my very own spot welder with AK-Builder tongs to try out. Seems it ain't a BP without a spot welder story!!!

I'll be putting up the March AK BP thread shortly. PM me if you want to be on it as a builder or watcher. Or you can let me know Saturday as well.

Gates open at 8am. Just pull into driveway and through on to the back.

If you had parts added to my AKB order, they are here. From MO to CA in TWO DAYS using USPS Priority mail. I don't know why I'm surprised at that speed...

PM's going out with directions as well.

It's a HF model. Got both the recommended tips from Curtis.

Thank you Sir. I haven't forgotten to get the 1/2-28 TAT for your threading.

UPDATE:

The spot welder was "Spot on" with the Jacks help.

The rain played peek-a-boo with us until the sun disappeared. Was another perfect AK building day!

The pair of vice grips everyone used (that I secretly hoped would stay) went home safe and sound. Dangit! However these lonely guys didn't.

Just let me know how you want them handled.

THANKS AGAIN GUYS!

Justin

If that pistol grip has a patch of missing checkering on one side, then I believe it is mine.
Ship it to me, I'll cover postage PM me.

Thanks again for hosting the build party!

Since you did leave your boogered rear trunion for the "penny jar", you'll get first dibs. But I think I know who it belongs to....

LAST FIND! Another rear trunion and that "Great Neck" brand vice grips I was drooling over was found. Pics up.

If nobody claims the PG, I'll take it minus the screw, mine seems to be missing.
Perhaps someone took mine by mistake, I have my mounting hardware though.

Sorry I didn't make this one Justin. But my friend was there for his 1st build and wanted me to post pics of his AK pistol and thank you for your hospitality and help. Many thanks for hosting these great build parties. I will be there next month to finish my AMD barrel and some other finishing touches to the others.

Yes it was the AK-builder pistol. The only thing is, they forgot to drill the hole into the barrel for gas tube.So the bolt doesn't cycle. Will call Curtis tomorrow to see what he can do.

I forgot those vice grips the first B.P but forgot about them. Didn't realize they were missing until I went looking for them at your second B.P. Go ahead and keep them for the cause.

Thanks for all your help as always.
